The Fourth Chorus is a major boss hidden in the Far Fields in Hollow Knight: Silksong. A large multi-limbed mechanical beast that appears dormant upon first walking through the area, only to turn into a fierce opponent after obtaining the latest upgrade to Hornet's kit. This guide gives you all the information you need to defeat the Fourth Chorus and progress on your exploration of Pharloom.
It is recommended that you have unlocked the Forge Daughters location and obtained their item before traveling to the Far Fields, as the location of the boss makes it so backtracking after a certain point is locked until the boss has been defeated.
Preparations
Upgrades
- Swift Step: Obtained in Deep Docks, allows Hornet to travel across gaps and distances in a short burst of speed. This also allows her to run during traversal.
- Drifter's Cloak: Obtained in Far Fields after completing the wish, Flexile Spines, from the Seamstress. The cloak allows you to ride along strong winds and glide gracefully.
Amulets and Crests
You can choose either of the options below, depending on your playstyle.
- Magma Bell: The Trinket is our own invention. It wards against the deadly lava and heat around these docks. This bell is found at the Forge Daughter at the Deep Docks, obtainable after beating the minion rush in the area beforehand.
- Druid's eye: Amulet of protection formed from Mossberries. As the bearer takes damage, the amulet weeps a green elixir that will form into silk. This item is obtained after you finish the Berry Picking wish that you can obtain in The Marrow and Moss Grotto.
Boss Fight: Fourth Chorus
Phase 1
Phase 1 is straightforward, as the Fourth Chorus will indicate with its limbs which one will hit the platforms first. If the hand that glows is facing downward, it means the boss is going to get rid of a piece of the platform. If the hand that is currently glowing is facing the left or right side, then the hand will make a sweeping motion towards Hornet. The best times to hit the Chorus will be when it is inactive or doing a hand-down attack. Attack the boss's head whenever possible and use the new float and gliding ability to stay up in the air and avoid the sweeping hand.
To heal during the fight, wait until the hand is about to sweep, jump high in the air, and quickly hit your bind button. This ensures your character is safe from getting interrupted while she heals. If she is interrupted, the healing not only stops, but depending on how low you are, Hornet will die, and you'll have to start the fight all over again. Dealing enough damage will cause the boss to shriek and begin Phase 2, indicated by the arms reaching upwards towards the ceiling.
Phase 2
Phase 2 mixes in a new movement from the Fourth Chorus, in which the boss alternates its arms in the air, causing magma boulders to fall from the sky for a short period. Do not attack during this time and instead focus on dodging the boulders as the Fourth Chorus will use its alternating attacks even when the boulders are still falling. Remember, if you have to choose between getting hit by a boulder or a hand, choose the boulder. Boulders deal one mask of damage, while the hand deals two masks and can knock you into the lava, which most likely ends in your demise. However, if you have the Magma Bell, you can simply climb out without receiving extra damage, but you may still be at a disadvantage depending on the next hand attack.
To enter the third phase, you'll need to knock the Fourth Chorus down to the platform twice with enough damage done. Like before, focus on the head during your attacks.
Phase 3
The Third Phase will remove the magma boulder attack, but it will deplete two extra pieces permanently from the platform during the fight. Instead, two vents will appear on the left and right for you to ride up. Only take the vents if you have one piece of platform left and hold your glide to ensure Hornet doesn't touch the lava until the platforms reappear.
The Fourth Chorus will also speed up during this phase, so use your glide mixed with Swift Step as much as possible while avoiding the use of your straight pin and Silkspear, as the Silkspear will use up your silk, which is better used for healing, and the pin has a higher chance of missing the target at this angle. Continue dealing damage to the boss and soon the Fourth Chorus will explode in a torrent of life and fall to pieces. This boss does not drop anything, but the path for you is cleared for traversal once again.
You have now completed the guide and defeated the boss. Continue your journey towards Greymoor and beyond.
