It can be equipped to Straight Swords, Daggers, Katanas, Thrusting Swords, and Twinblades.

How to Get The Ash of War: Assassin's Gambit Skill

This Ash of War can be bought from Knight Bernahl in the Volcano Manor for 6500 Runes. Bernahl won't open shop until you complete the first assassination mission from the Volcano Manor. To do this, as soon as you enter the Manor, talk with Tanith and accept to serve her. This will give you a key to open a room in the main hallway, where you'll find a letter that marks a target on your map.

That target lets you locate Old Knight Istvan in Limgrave. Kill him and, as you return, Bernahl will open shop, letting you buy this Ash of War.
