    [EVENT] 🌏Leti Innovation Day Taiwan 2026, Hsinchu The 2026 edition of Leti Innovation Day in Hsinchu brought together leading industry players, researchers, and innovators from Taiwan and Europe for a strategic afternoon dedicated to semiconductor innovation and ecosystem collaboration. 🤝Co-organized by CEA-Leti and the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)(工業技術研究院, 工研院), in collaboration with the French Office in Taipei, the event highlighted the growing momentum of Franco-Taiwanese cooperation in key enabling technologies. 🎤With opening remarks by Franck Paris, Director of the French Office in Taipei, and Stephen Su, Senior Vice President at ITRI, and strategic keynotes from Dr. Wei-Chung Lo (ITRI EOSL) and Sébastien Dauvé, the discussions provided a shared perspective on the strategic vision and priorities shaping semiconductor ecosystems in Taiwan, France, and across Europe. 🧭The program explored major technological challenges and opportunities shaping the future of AI-driven systems, including: - Advanced packaging & heterogeneous integration - Silicon photonics for computing and sensing - Power management & energy-efficient architectures - MicroLED technologies for next-generation systems - Design-Technology Co-Optimization 🏭Through joint sessions between CEA-Leti and ITRI, as well as contributions from key Taiwanese industry players such as Etron, and deep-tech startups including NanoSeeX, IIST, and STEK, the event showcased the importance of bridging research, industry, and entrepreneurship.     [AWARD] At CEA-Leti, research on new materials for tomorrow's electronics is at the heart of the effort to develop semiconductor alternatives. 🏆 Congratulations to Georges AL HOYEK on his Oustanding Student Paper Award at UCPSS! Originally from Lebanon, Georges began his studies in fundamental physics in his home country before pursuing a Master’s degree in nanoscience and nanotechnology in Rennes. This academic path, at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and microelectronics, naturally led him to a PhD at CEA-Leti, carried out in collaboration with Laboratoire des Technologies de la Microélectronique - LTMLab. 💬 "I wanted to work in an environment that is both academic and close to the industrial world. CEA-Leti perfectly represents this balance." Georges’ research focuses on the functionalization of InP (indium phosphide) surfaces, a semiconductor alternative to silicon that is particularly promising because of its optical and electronic properties. Its use in microelectronics is hindered by the spontaneous formation of an oxide layer and organic contaminants on the surface of the material. The objective of his work is to develop an efficient de-oxidation protocol within the framework of wet cleaning, a key step in surface preparation before integration into microelectronic devices. 🔎 To carry out his study, Georges developed and optimized a dedicated experimental setup assembled by the Laboratoire des Technologies de la Microélectronique - LTMLab (IMPACT platform), combining a glove box with a pARXPS 300 mm analysis system, both connected by a vacuum transfer system.     [QUANTUM] 🔬 Scaling up quantum computing in Europe Quantum computers promise to solve problems beyond the reach of today’s most powerful supercomputers, but scalability remains a key challenge due to the fragility of qubits. Building on the success of the QLSI Project (2020–2025), which demonstrated entangled qubits in multi-qubit arrays, QLSI2 Project (2024–2027, €25M EU-funded), coordinated by CEA aims to take a major step forward. 🚀 The ambition:  ✔ Develop semiconductor-based QPUs up to 200 qubits  ✔ Demonstrate scalable, industry-relevant performance  ✔ Lay the foundation for a European quantum supply chain Two approaches are explored: SiGe heterostructures and FD-SOI technology.     [NEWS] 🧑⚕️A breakthrough in quantum technologies for healthcare and beyond CEA-Leti has achieved a major milestone in miniaturized Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs)—opening the door to a new generation of compact, high-performance optical sensors. 👉 https://lnkd.in/etQ7pBag 🔬 By integrating mid-infrared QCL sources onto silicon through advanced heterogeneous III-V-on-Si bonding, our teams have developed a scalable and cost-effective platform capable of producing thousands of lasers on a single wafer. 💡 Why does it matter? QCLs operate in the mid-infrared, where molecules reveal their unique “fingerprints.” This enables highly precise detection of biomarkers—paving the way for non-invasive, continuous monitoring of chronic diseases such as diabetes or hypertension. 🤝 This breakthrough is the result of over a decade of research and a truly collective effort, combining expertise in design, process integration, characterization, and system-level development. 🌍 Beyond healthcare, these miniaturized technologies unlock new possibilities across multiple fields: • Industrial process monitoring • Environmental sensing (air quality, greenhouse gases) • Bioproduction and agriculture ⚙️ From materials to systems, CEA-Leti leverages its full value chain expertise to bring these innovations closer to real-world applications. ✨ As demonstrated at SPIE Photonics West 2026, this work marks a significant step toward making infrared spectroscopy more accessible, scalable, and impactful.     [EVENEMENT] Ces derniers jours s'est tenue la 4ème édition des journées scientifiques du PEPR Électronique. 🌟 « Cet événement PEPR a pleinement joué son rôle de rendez-vous fédérateur pour la communauté électronique. Réunir près de 400 participants — laboratoires, industriels et tutelles — autour de thématiques aussi stratégiques que la microélectronique, la photonique, les capteurs ou encore l’intégration des systèmes, est essentiel pour faire émerger des synergies. La richesse des échanges, entre tables rondes, workshops et discussions stratégiques, ainsi que le lancement du PEPR Packaging, illustrent une dynamique collective forte.
