It's a great week to be a GTA fan! Not only did GTA 5 players get a free upgrade to bring their PS4 and digital Xbox One versions to current-gen consoles, but we also got a long-awaited preorder release date for the game. GTA 6 preorders officially begin on June 25, 2026, less than a week after the time of writing.
This helps to ease concerns that the game may be delayed yet again and further solidifies the November 19 release date. Of course, there is still a chance the game may be pushed back, but having preorders available is definitely a good sign! There is a light at the end of this tunnel, and it looks just as bright as Ocean Drive.
To say that GTA 6 has been a long time coming would be an understatement. GTA 5 is one of the best-selling video games of all time and was released all the way back in 2013. Of course, no one really expected the next GTA to release in 2014, but fans definitely didn't expect to have to wait 13 whole years to jump into Vice City again.
Rockstar Games originally announced that GTA 6 was in development in 2022 before officially unveiling the trailer in 2023. Since then, it has fallen victim to delays. GTA 6 was originally slated for a fall 2025 release. Rockstar pushed that back to May 2026. GTA 6 was then delayed once again to November 19, 2026, which it still seems to be on track for. This was so developers could further polish the game.
As disappointing as game delays can be, sometimes they are necessary. GTA 6 is shaping up to potentially be one of the biggest game releases ever. That's a lot of pressure! At the end of the day, we don't want a sub-par GTA. If waiting another year and a half means getting a smooth, playable, and enjoyable experience, that's well worth the wait.
How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?
Now that we have a solid release and preorder date, all that's left to find out is how much GTA 6 will cost. The price of GTA 6 has not yet been released, but the mere question makes me slightly anxious, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Grand Theft Auto 5 is one of the best-selling games of all time. And with GTA 6 potentially being the most popular game release of all time, Rockstar Games has a lot of power in their hands.
If Rockstar Games chose to charge $150 USD for GTA 6, people would still buy it. In droves, no less. This could set a concerning precedent for other game developers who, once this sort of price was normalized, might follow suit. Let's hope that doesn't happen and that Rockstar Games remembers: with great power comes great responsibility.
