After a gameplay demo for the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day was revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, one of the franchise's original creators, Cliff Bleszinski, took to Twitter to share his thoughts. While Bleszinski is not involved in the production of Gears of War: E-Day, he previously worked as the lead designer on the first three installments, which gives his comments on the new iteration some extra weight.

June's Xbox Games Showcase revealed that Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox console exclusive, though it will still come to PC via Steam. It was also revealed that the game will officially launch on October 6, 2026, with beta early access on August 6 for those who pre-order the game. But amid all these exciting pieces of news, one thing that has caught the attention of some Gears of War fans has been the recent comments from the franchise's former lead designer.

Gears of War: E-Day's Focus on Kalona Makes It Sound Even More Like a Horror Game

Gears of War: E-Day is taking the fight against the Locust Horde strictly to Kalona, opening the door to even more horror than anticipated.

Former Gears of War Lead Designer Shares Thoughts on E-Day

"Those Locust are dying mighty easy, just sayin'," reads one of Cliff Bleszinski's recent tweets. His post likely refers to the combat gameplay of Gears of War: E-Day revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase, where Marcus Fenix is seen taking down Locust Drones. To further explain his point, Bleszinski added that when Randy Pitchford played the original Gears of War, he said, "Wow, this is a grinder, eh?" The former game designer also stated, "Locust should have thick skin and armor, and the game feedback loop should evolve to reflect that."

Cliff Bleszinski Praised Gears of War: E-Day Too

Aside from the small note about E-Day's enemies, Bleszinski had plenty of positive things to say about the upcoming AAA game. "E-Day looks great," reads another of his tweets. "Amazing feature set, great tech improvements, and, most importantly, looks like it has heart," he continued. He also praised developer The Coalition, saying, "The longer glimpse of what The Coalition has been up to is exciting."

Despite these positive and supportive comments, Bleszinski's more critical remarks regarding the Locust Horde have been the center of attention. In recent weeks, this is the second time an original creator has shared a less-than-optimistic opinion about a game they are no longer associated with. Earlier in June, God of War's original creator, David Jaffe, criticized the next installment, saying, "This is not God of War." While Bleszinski's comments are not as harsh as Jaffe's, they have still been enough to stir up heated debates within the community. It remains to be seen what other comments former Gears of War developers will share in the future about E-Day as more is revealed about the game.
