A devastating Forza Horizon 6 issue that causes complete save data corruption is getting developer attention following weeks of vocal player reports. While a complete fix may not be straightforward, some preliminary measures that alleviate the problem are already rolling out to Forza Horizon 6 players.
Counting its early access period, the latest big-budget open-world racer has been out for exactly one month as of June 14. Fan reports of heartbreaking save data loss have circulated online throughout that time, taking some shine off Forza Horizon 6's record-breaking launch. Developer Playground Games has now acknowledged the issue, suggesting the situation stems not from a single bug but a broader category thereof.
Forza Horizon 6 June 2026 Patch Tackles Progress Loss Problems
The first patch targeting structural save system problems began rolling out to Forza Horizon 6 players on June 12. It aims to address some of the underlying issues that can lead to data corruption. Cases of complete progress loss may still occur, but they should be less common. However, it remains to be seen how much the patch will reduce that risk, with Playground Games offering nothing in the way of estimates. Before the update, the most common catastrophic failure scenario involved the autosave function being interrupted by a game crash, device power loss, or a drop in internet connectivity. The day-one backend data validation was either not enough to catch corruption before overwriting an older backup, or the system refused to revert to the last good save for another reason.
As per usual, the British developer is doing a staged rollout on consoles, meaning the update will take days to reach all Xbox Series X/S owners. The PC version of Forza Horizon 6 uses a different delivery pipeline, bundling the fixes with Microsoft's official Gaming Services library. While the utility package is typically updated automatically, anyone who has yet to receive the update or has encountered issues with installing it can also try updating Game Services manually via the Windows Store.
Forza Horizon 6 Is Not the First Series Entry with Save System Issues
Forza Horizon 5 has also suffered from cloud saving issues, though its most widespread problems were limited to instances of device switching where the data syncing system broke down. Conversely, the new game appears to have an even more finicky cloud save mechanism. Since the two titles share many technologies, from the main graphics engine to various utility libraries, some of their save system issues may have common causes, even if they do not manifest in identical ways.

Save system stress aside, early adopter reactions to the new open-world racer have been near-unanimously positive, with the occasional complaint mostly centered on a favorite car missing from the day-one vehicle pool.
