Demon Slayer enjoyed a sensational return in 2025 with the beginning of its Infinity Castle trilogy, which kicked off with “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 - Akaza's Return.” Infinity Castle Part 1 was a smashing hit, and ever since its release, both in theaters and most recently on streaming services, fans have only been more hyped for the next big movie release of the franchise.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 technically remains without a release date, but reports have pinned a release date to Summer 2027. However, despite Demon Slayer's dominating presence, 2027 will be a tough year for it to compete in, as we will see the release of many grand and ambitious movies, notably Solo Leveling: Beyond the System and One Piece: Film God Valley, among others.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 Is Reportedly Set To Premiere In 2027
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 finally premiered in Japan in July 2025. Only a month later, we saw this movie brought to theaters globally, with an initial release in many East Asian countries and eventually in North America and Europe as well. This movie was long awaited, as it was set up a year prior to its release, with Demon Slayer Season 4's finale. Fans all over the world were eagerly waiting to track this movie's performance, especially after its predecessor, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, smashed all records in Japan and worldwide. Of course, Infinity Castle Part 1 did not disappoint and went on to become the single highest-grossing anime movie of all time, surpassing $700 million at the global box office.
With such massive success behind the first movie of a trilogy, fans are greatly excited for the continuation of this story. Demon Slayer will continue with the next movie, right now referred to as ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2,’ although that title could be subject to change when more information is revealed. At the moment, information concerning Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 is quite limited. In fact, we still don't know when to expect this release. While many fans had hoped to see Infinity Castle Part 2 drop in 2026, that was undoubtedly an ambitious and unrealistic dream. Instead, reports indicate that Infinity Castle Part 2 will be released in Summer 2027. The exact release month in 2027 remains to be determined. The likeliest release window for it is summer of 2027, which perfectly coincides with the second anniversary of Akaza’s Return.
Demon Slayer Will Face A Big Hurdle In Added Competition From One Piece And Solo Leveling
When Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1 premiered in 2025, it was a dominant force, and frankly, in the anime industry, at least, it did not have much competition. The second-biggest movie of that year was Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, which, in comparison, was a small release that ended with less than $200 million at the Box Office. However, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 will face far greater competition because 2027 is going to be stacked when it comes to anime movie releases. In a big part, this is due to Demon Slayer's contagious success that has inspired many other studios to bring forward more animated movies, for better or for worse in regards to the industry.
With that in mind, it was revealed on July 5, 2026, during Anime Expo that the biggest new hit action anime, Solo Leveling, would be getting a theatrical release. This new theatrical release, brought to life via Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, is titled Solo Leveling: Beyond the System. This canon movie is set to adapt the Ahjin Guild arc and the Return to the Double Dungeon arc. Through the short teaser, the animation and production seem to be on a whole other level, and popularity-wise, Solo Leveling is like no other at the moment, even surpassing Demon Slayer on Crunchyroll as the #1 highest-rated series.
Solo Leveling aside, we also have One Piece to look forward to. For the first time in its almost 30-year history, One Piece has never had a canon movie, but that is officially changing in 2027. Toei Animation announced on One Piece Day 2026, held on August 23, 2026, that they are producing a new movie covering the legendary events of the God Valley Incident, titled One Piece Film: God Valley. A God Valley movie is something that fans have been asking for for quite a while now. With One Piece rising in global popularity and it getting its first canon movie, we are sure God Valley will be a smashing hit at the Box Office in 2027.
Haikyu is also returning in 2027. Haikyu's last movie came in 2024, and since then, fans have been impatiently waiting for the next match to begin. This new movie is titled ‘Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant.’ This new movie will see the plot heat up in the Nationals between Karasuno High and Kamomedai High.
These three movies are going to be massive, and they could definitely be challenging Demon Slayer's overall box office dominance. In large part, their popularity will also depend on when these movies will be released in comparison to Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 Is Still Projected For The Highest Box Office Numbers
Competition for Demon Slayer is about to be massive in 2027, as the anime industry pushes to bring out its full potential and release one massive anime movie hit after the other. Solo Leveling, One Piece, and Haikyu are going to take up a big chunk of many fans' attention at the theaters, but undoubtedly, Demon Slayer will not struggle. That is because of its overwhelming dominion over movie theaters. In 2020, Demon Slayer released its first movie ever, called Mugen Train. It went on to break all records back then, and even today, it remains Japan's biggest Domestic Box Office hit.
In 2025, Demon Slayer delivered the highest-grossing anime movie of all time and the second-highest in Japan, with Infinity Castle. For one franchise to hold the top two spots, both domestically and internationally for Japanese anime movies, is simply unheard of. No other series or studio has had as much impact and dominance over theaters. Because of that, we are sure that fans are going to flock to theaters to watch the continuation of Infinity Castle, no matter what other movie is out there.
Demon Slayer is a simple story, but that has only played to its advantage. Anyone can get into it and quickly catch up to watch the movies, and that has been a major factor in its grand success. Its global popularity is also at an all-time high at the moment, and fans have come to know the IP for its incredibly well-directed movies. We definitely expect a crushing new box office hit from Ufotable Studio with Demon Slayer. It's hard to say whether Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 2 will surpass its two predecessors or if it will fall slightly short. Only time will tell, but our expectations are sky-high.
