Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a new peak player count on Steam, with over 87,000 fans booting up the game at the end of June. A few factors may explain why Cyberpunk 2077 is experiencing a resurgence, including a major recent sale on the platform.
The initial 2020 release of Cyberpunk 2077 went down in history as one of the most controversial video game launches. But the game’s vindication and growth over the years have also turned it into one of the most flawless open-world RPGs. CD Projekt Red has also played its cards right to rebuild Cyberpunk 2077’s reputation with several performance patches, an acclaimed anime spin-off series, and other releases. Now, Cyberpunk 2077 has hit a new player record in years.
Cyberpunk 2077 Hits New Player Peak Count in Over Two Years

According to the latest Steam player counter data, Cyberpunk 2077 has hit 87,025 concurrent players over the final weekend of June 2026. This is the game's highest player count on the platform since December 2023, when it hit over 88,000, a few months after the successful launch of its Phantom Liberty DLC. The RPG averages a monthly Steam player count between 20,000 and 30,000, so reaching 87,000 in a few days is an impressive feat. The achievement may be tied to Cyberpunk 2077's latest Steam sale until June 25, which saw a 70% discount on the base game, its steepest yet, leaving it at only $17.99. The DLC bundle was also 60% off at $33.10.
Another potential reason why Cyberpunk 2077 is seeing a comeback in the charts could be the upcoming release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The new season of the spin-off series was recently confirmed for launch in Fall 2026. When the first season premiered in September 2022, Cyberpunk 2077 reached a peak count of over 136,000 players on Steam. Similarly, when the anime's sequel was announced in July 2025, the game saw a player boost of 66,000 concurrent players. It wouldn't be a surprise if the action title sees yet another resurgence once Edgerunners 2 hits the small screens in a few months.
CD Projekt Red has been hard at work with Cyberpunk 2077 releases in recent months. Earlier in April, the official Cyberpunk TCG broke a Kickstarter record for the most crowdfunded game campaign in history. An official arcade game named Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome Rush was also unveiled in March. Moreover, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners recently crossed over with Kuro Games' gacha title Wuthering Waves to make characters Lucy and Rebecca playable units. These launches arguably keep Cyberpunk 2077's popularity on the rise, which could attract even more players to Night City in the future.
