Abyssus, the popular 1-to-4 player first-person shooter, is coming to Xbox Game Pass and consoles in Summer 2026. Abyssus has garnered numerous positive player reviews on Steam since its release. The game is likely to find an even bigger following this summer when it's able to reach a wider audience through Xbox Game Pass.
Developed by Double Moose Games and published by The Arcade Crew, Abyssus is a fast-paced, "brinepunk" roguelite FPS set within a world that runs on a magical substance called brine. Brine can only be found in the ruins of a mysterious underwater civilization. Players take control of Brinehunters, delvers tasked with collecting the substance and returning with it to the surface. However, brine isn't left unguarded. Players must shoot their way past the forgotten kingdom's twisted guardians in order to collect the powerful material. The game blends shooting with rogulite progression, as players are encouraged to experiment with different weapons, blessings, and builds to fight through hand-crafted levels. As such, new Abyssus players might need some help to survive the onslaught.

While previously a Steam exclusive, Abyssus developer Double Moose Games revealed in its most-recent trailer that the game will be coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass this summer. The console version of the game will feature full cross-play support. Alongside its digital release, physical editions for the game will also be available. The console and Xbox Game Pass launch will coincide with the release of Abyssus' patch 1.3, which looks to bring a substantial amount of new content to the game. The inclusion of a physical game is likely welcomed news to collectors who are still interested in purchasing physical media.

One of the biggest additions to the game coming in patch 1.3 is the introduction of a brand-new god. The new deity will expand the game's blessing system with 15 new powers for players to try out. Blessings provide various buffs to weapons, abilities, and elemental damage types, allowing players to experiment with new builds each run. In addition to the new god, existing members of the game's pantheon will receive five new blessings each, giving players even greater build variety. The update looks to deepen Abyssus' roguelite progression, allowing teams to craft more synergistic builds while battling increasingly dangerous enemies.
Patch 1.3 will also introduce a new playable area, revamped skill trees, new enemies, fresh bosses, and even add sea shanties to the game. Beyond additional content for new and returning players to tackle, Double Moose Games is adding quality-of-life improvements, including a streamlined match-making system and quickplay option. The update also includes new room objectives which look to help keep multiple runs feeling fresh for returning players. Though cross-play will be available upon console release, the developer hasn't stated whether cross progression will be supported if players already own the game on Steam. Despite physical sales of games declining in 2025, it's nice to see publisher The Arcade Crew offer a physical release for the game.
With its console debut and release of its biggest update yet slated for Summer 2026, it could mark a major moment for Abyssus. The roguelite shooter has already built a dedicated player base on Steam, amassing over 3,000 player reviews and sitting at Very Positive on the platform. Launching on consoles and Xbox Game Pass specifically, could boost the game's signal even higher. Despite Microsoft's gaming subscription service increasing its prices, Xbox Game Pass still has plenty of consumers willing to try it. If the game's fast-past gunplay, creative setting, and build diversity resonate with console players the same way they have with PC players, Abyssus may soon find itself diving into quite the success story.
