Best Crossplay Games On Xbox Game Pass (April 2026 Update)

Xbox Game Pass has such a vast library that nearly every desire, genre, and category should be fulfilled, and that includes crossplay games. Although not supported by every release, developers have started to implement this functionality, especially if a game revolves almost exclusively around multiplayer or online play. Crossplay simply allows players on different platforms to work together, which often helps bring the community together and extend a project's lifespan. In most cases, you can even turn off crossplay if you would rather only play with people on the same hardware.

As there isn't a quick and easy way to know which Game Pass games support crossplay, I have put together a list that goes over the best of them, all of which have been tested at one point or another. This isn't an exhaustive rundown, but it covers most of the heavy-hitters and major newcomers. If you aren't sure if a game supports crossplay, that information is often available on its Xbox page.

Sea Of Thieves

Ever since its rough launch in 2018, Rare's Sea of Thieves has amassed a dedicated fanbase who appreciate its free-roaming structure, stylish visuals, and frequent updates. Although the waters are not bereft of solitary adventurers, Sea of Thieves is largely intended to be a co-op experience, with players being encouraged to create crews to get the most out of the pirate life.

Regardless of whether someone seeks companionship or not, they will meet other players at some point or another since Sea of Thieves is an always-online multiplayer game; consequently, it benefits from crossplay support. Considering the title will likely always be available on Game Pass, it makes sense to combine the community into one online space. That said, controller-only players might struggle in PvP scenarios against pirates controlled by keyboards and mice, leading to a few unbalanced encounters. As such, Sea of Thieves' crossplay is mainly for when friends from different ecosystems want to join forces.

2026 Status: Peak Population. Season 19, "Fights & Festivals," started on March 19, 2026. This update improves PvP and added a battle royale mode revolving around ship combat, cleverly titled "Last Ship Standing."

Xbox users can disable crossplay support if they wish.

Mortal Kombat 1

Jump Into The Arena

While still quite active, Mortal Kombat 1 has led a pretty weird life so far. Launching to mostly positive reviews, the game's reputation turned a bit sour after that point, although its online scene will likely continue to be popular for a couple more years. When a fighting game is added to Game Pass, I assume its main appeal to new players is its single-player content, as anybody who wants to jump into multiplayer would likely have already done so. So, is MK1 worth it just for the story, towers, and invasions? Well, yeah, even if none of these modes is a home run.

The story is cinematic, over-the-top, and inconsistent. The decision to reboot the universe makes MK1 a viable entry point into the franchise, but it comes at the cost of wiping out some pretty interesting lore that had developed over the previous few games. This mode will keep you engaged for a couple of hours, while invasions and towers are designed to offer replay value for anybody who doesn't want to jump online. Crossplay is crucial for the latter, just to ensure you always have somebody to play with.

2026 Status: Maintenance. You won't have any issues finding somebody to play against, but support for MK1 has largely stopped at this point.

Hunt: Showdown 1896

Platforms That Support Crossplay: Xbox and PlayStation (Matchmaking)

Originally going by Hunt: Showdown before receiving a substantial upgrade in 2024, the 1896 variant is still primarily the same game, albeit with a significant change in setting. Taking place on pretty cool maps with an old-school Louisiana vibe, the title challenges hunters to take on bounties, with the goal being to discover clues and take on the final boss. However, players can opt to simply engage in the PvP element of this PvPvE game and gradually accumulate small gains, allowing them to extract safely and securely as long as they remain in one piece. People who prefer to go for solo runs will likely have to use this strategy, as it is pretty darn difficult to compete against teams, and even the AI enemies can quickly overwhelm the poorly prepared or unlucky.

In most cases, players will likely approach Hunt: Showdown 1896 as a multiplayer co-op experience, where they can team up with a few friends. The game allows PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players to jump into the same match, and the March 2026 update finally allows invites to be sent from one console to the other.

2026 Status: Highly active. The March 18, 2026, update was a big deal for crossplay, as PS5 and Xbox players can finally invite each other.

Dead By Daylight

Platforms That Support Crossplay: Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Mobile, and Nintendo Switch

By this point, Dead by Daylight has more than proven its staying power. Every few months, Behaviour Interactive boosts the game's relevance through expansions, most of which contain versions of popular horror icons. While hardly the only egg in the basket, Dead by Daylight is undoubtedly the most popular 4v1 survival horror project on the market.

In 2020, Behaviour added cross-platform support on consoles and PC, which undoubtedly extended Dead by Daylight's lifespan. For the uninitiated, the game pits four survivors against a single killer, challenging the former to fix generators and escape before they are wiped out by the latter. Each character, both good and evil, comes with unique abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. Although matches can get formulaic after a while, Dead by Daylight's vast selection of killers and survivors should keep players busy, provided they are willing to try out different characters.

2026 Status: Major content launch. "All-Kill: Comeback" launched on March 17, 2026, introducing a new map and Survivor.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Space Marine 2 took a long time to materialize, and, while not exactly flawless, it managed to mostly live up to the hype. You can play through the campaign in single-player, and you will be supported by two hulking AI soldiers who are occasionally useful. However, to maximize your group's efficiency and deadliness, online co-op is the way to go, as there is nothing scarier than three space marines who always know what they are doing. The story isn't that long, but it should be able to keep a group busy for roughly 10 hours, and that's assuming they don't try the harder difficulties.

Besides the campaign, Space Marine 2 also has Operations, which is split into missions that let you and your group face off against AI enemies. Siege is another co-op option, and it is basically a horde mode. The game also supports PvP through Eternal War, pitting teams of 6 against each other; however, this mode doesn't support full crossplay, as console and PC players are separated. Space Marine 2 has quite a lot of content that can keep Game Pass subscribers busy for quite a while, and crossplay helps make it easier to engage in co-op.

2026 Status: Highly active, both in terms of player base and updates. On February 26, 2026, the Techmarine Update was finally added to Space Marine 2, bringing a new class, PvE operation, and balance adjustments.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Yes, Call of Duty has been in a bit of a rut in the last few years, but the new games are still among the most popular multiplayer options of their release years. Black Ops 7 was, arguably, the least hyped entry in the franchise of the last decade, and it has plenty of issues that stop it from being great. The campaign is not particularly good and might disappoint players who download BO7 in the hope of getting a decent solo run; however, the multiplayer is generally well worth the price of a download if you're craving some fast-paced competitive scenarios.

The maps are mostly solid, and the gameplay has been tweaked just enough to feel like an evolution of previous entries. BO7's Zombies is also rock-solid and the best since 2020's Black Ops Cold War, so you can easily have some good old-fashioned co-op wave-based fun. Personally, Zombies is the primary mode I check out in each Call of Duty, and BO7 doesn't disappoint.

2026 Status: Extremely active​​​​​​. Black Ops 7 is the current gold standard for cross-platform play. With the new "Omnimovement" system, playing with friends on PS5 or PC feels seamless. If you're on the Avalon Warzone map, ensure your Crossplay toggle is ON in settings to find matches in under 10 seconds.

Gears of War: Reloaded

This is weird. Gears of War is on a PlayStation console. That just doesn't sound right, does it? Well, that is the timeline we live in, and there are certainly positives to this development. For one, Game Pass subscribers who boot up Gears of War: Reloaded will be joining a wider playerbase than ever before, which should help keep the remaster's PvP modes alive for quite a long time. Secondly, you can now play through the 2-player co-op campaign with a friend who does not own an Xbox or a PC, creating a union that would have seemed inconceivable just a few years ago.

Now, is Reloaded worth playing? If somebody has never experienced Gears of War, they should give this version a try. While the third-person shooter gameplay feels dated at this point, it is still satisfying, and the campaign is paced well to ensure that most encounters do not overstay their welcome. If you have no interest in the online portion, the single-player (or co-op) story is 100% worth experiencing. If you have played the game to death already, you might just want to try the multiplayer modes.

2026 Status: Best with friends. This is currently the best way to introduce a friend on PS5 or PC to the series. The 120 FPS multiplayer update makes the cross-platform competition feel incredibly smooth.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Tribute Games knows a thing or two about crafting brilliant beat 'em ups, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion might just be its crowning achievement. TMNT: Shredder's Revenge is arguably just as good, but it does not support full crossplay like the developer's 2025 follow-up. Although paying tribute to the genre's legendary past, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is firmly set in the present, delivering gameplay that is satisfying, accessible, and stylish. You will eventually be able to play as 15 Marvel characters, all of whom have unique movesets that set them apart. While the campaign is short and sweet, the roster's size and variety should keep most people coming back for more.

Single-player is a blast, but Marvel Cosmic Invasion is the definition of a co-op game. Bringing in additional players supercharges the mayhem, filling the screen with controlled chaos that compares favorably with any other modern beat 'em up. You even get to use tag team moves that are associated with a few pairings. Great, great stuff.

2026 Status: Not extremely active, but it should still be possible to find players for online matchmaking.

Grounded 2

Obsidian's announcement of Grounded 2 came as a bit of a surprise, just because it did not seem like the developer was winding down the first game. Yet, the sequel is now part of Game Preview and Steam Early Access, and it is a solid evolution of its predecessor.

Set in a park rather than a backyard, Grounded 2 very much feels like "Grounded but bigger and better," although it does come with a few rough edges that should be ironed out during the development process. The sequel emphasizes customization way more than the original title, so you can go out of your way to put a personal touch on your character. If you have played Grounded, the sequel's gameplay loop will not hold too many surprises, as it is still ultimately a survival game that prioritizes crafting; however, it is shaping up to be a pretty awesome successor.

2026 Status: Active development, but already popular. As of April 2026, the game remains in Game Preview/Early Access. The "Toxic Tangle" Spring Update just launched, introducing the Garden biome and the new Ladybug Buggy mount. Currently, Grounded 2 is not available on PS5.

Grounded is still on Game Pass, and it supports crossplay.

PowerWash Simulator 2

Platforms That Support Crossplay: Xbox and PC

Have you ever come across a game concept and thought, "There is no way that could be fun," only to learn the error of your ways? That is my experience with roughly 80% of work sim games, and PowerWash Simulator might be the best example. Why is it so satisfying and relaxing to blast dirt away? Like, it isn't fun in real life, but FuturLab has managed to make it incredible in gaming form.

The first game was flawless, and the sequel is somehow even better. Although you can definitely start a business solo, PowerWash Simulator 2 is arguably better with a partner, as the campaign supports two-player co-op. There is also a free mode that allows up to four users, allowing for maximum cleaning carnage. If this series does not sound like your cup of tea, give it a try for a few hours. It won't take long for you to realize if these games are for you or not.

2026 Status: Highly active. On March 10, the 1.2 update came out with a few fixes and additions, including improvements to multiplayer. The "Adventure Time" DLC was released on April 9, 2026, although that needs to be purchased separately.
