With only a few episodes left, Witch Hat Atelier has left its mark on the anime world, and fans aren't ready to say goodbye. While a second season may be on the way, no official confirmation has been given, with Bug Films remaining coy about the possibility of more Coco in the near future. The adaptation of Kamome Shirahama's fantasy manga series wasn't easy, with Bug Films recently confirming it took over three years to craft 13 episodes. This was time well spent, as Witch Hat Atelier has proven to be a masterclass in animation and storytelling, with its pacing and whimsical world pushing it to the pinnacle of the Spring 2026 anime season. Not a single episode has been a dud, and it's clear that the staff understood the assignment, pouring their love into the series and ensuring that it will remain beloved for years to come.

In Witch Hat Atelier Episode 10, Coco's story largely took a backseat, as Tartah's own insecurities and troubles were given time in the limelight. The young boy, who suffers from Silverwash Syndrome, did his best to ease Coco's pain during her time in the hospital by seeking out the proper medicine, but his handicap made doing so easier said than done. As was to be expected given her temperament, Coco urged Tartah to focus on his strengths rather than his weaknesses, proving that he was capable of wielding his own form of magic. Once healed, Coco and Qifrey returned to the atelier. During their brief journey, the young girl realized something: drawing the inverse of the spell that trapped her mother in crystal may be the key to reversing the forbidden magic she unknowingly cast.

Coco may be dealing with some major problems (namely, her mother being frozen in crystal), but being surrounded by all things magical has done wonders for her character. As obsessed with magic as she has always been, it's no surprise that she approaches each lesson with gusto, and this week's installment takes the time to show more of Qifrey's delicate teaching style, filled with encouragement and deep wisdom that could only come from years of experience with aspiring mages. Namely, the silver-haired witch points out Coco's strong suit, which is drawing straight lines, something she did during her time working with clothing. While this makes the young girl want to focus solely on what she excels at, Qifrey notes that she should take the time to practice the things she's less confident about, as she may discover another strong suit waiting in the pages of her textbooks. He also points out the power of positive self-talk, which is something viewers should take to heart, given the amount of self-deprecating humor that has become the hallmark of recent generations.

Witch Hat Atelier Episode 11's first half finally gives Richeh some much-needed screentime and exposition, delving more into the quiet girl's past and character. As Coco is excitedly flipping through books and marveling at the spells drawn within, she invites her fellow apprentice to join her, though this triggers instant rage. Richeh has always been the quietest of the group, and in past episodes, she has made it clear that she will only do things her own way, going as far as to state that she will only draw what she wants. As Coco discovers the quiet girl's secret hideout, she learns that Richeh is afraid of being influenced by others' magic, not wanting outsiders to poison her own creations. What this means for her future as a witch is unclear, though her unwillingness to listen to Qifrey seems to stem from her past, during which time she was an apprentice to another (likely stricter) teacher. It's incredible what one good mentor can do, however, and by the end, it's clear that Qifrey will do whatever he can to see Richeh succeed while not surrendering her principles.

“When you close your eyes to the guideposts of learning and shut your ears to the words of your teacher, you’ll go nowhere fast.” - Olruggio

The second half of the episode sees Agott finally get her chance to take the second test, and while Qifrey's other apprentices aren't taking part, they are invited to come along for the ride. At the last minute, Qifrey tells Richeh that she will be participating, which enrages the girl yet again. However, her teacher explains that doing so will help her to live the life that she wants to live in the future, with Qifrey ending his explanation with a plea for Richeh to trust him just one time. The test, which is a type of complex escort mission, won't be easy, with next week's episode sure to be packed with action and a tad more stress than this week's romp. Curiously, Richeh doesn't seem worried about the test's results, perhaps because she is confident in her own skills. There's something beautiful about not wanting to become something you're not, and it's a lesson more young people should take to heart.

Witch Hat Atelier Episode 11 Review Image via Bug Films

Witch Hat Atelier manages to drive home some powerful lessons about self-worth and personal growth, while also being one of the most engaging fantasy series in recent memory. It doesn't preach, but rather weaves its lessons directly into its storytelling, with Qifrey acting as a mentor to his apprentices and the audience as well. For many of us, growing up was filled with landmines in the form of adults telling us what we could and couldn't do. Bad teachers could bring us down or instill in us a feeling of never being good enough, a feeling that often remains with us as adults. Qifrey feels like the role model we all need, always focusing on the positive and never giving the bad thoughts time to breed. We are all skilled at something, and the things we struggle with can always be polished and made better. We're all valuable and irreplaceable, with Richeh serving as a reminder to never change yourself for another.

Qifrey's apprentices aren't the only ones to take the test, as this week also introduced Euini and his teacher, Kukrow. The young boy has already failed the test twice, but instead of cheering him on and focusing on what he brings to the table, Kukrow cruelly berates him, calling him worthless and lamenting that he couldn't be traded for another, more skilled witch-in-training. The impact of this is instantly clear, with Euini constantly apologizing and beating himself down with his own words. What we plant will grow tenfold: negativity breeds negativity, and once it begins to sprout, it's hard to chop down. This week's Witch Hat Atelier makes two important points: believe in yourself, and be yourself.

And in a time when everyone has TikTok brainrot and acts exactly the same, being yourself is an incredibly brave act of defiance. Cheers, Richeh.
