CD Projekt Red has just announced a brand-new DLC heading to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 2027. This third Witcher 3 expansion will be titled 'Songs of the Past' and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime next year. Fans will hear more from CD Projekt Red regarding this new DLC in "late summer."
Back in June 2025, Polish gaming industry insider Borys Nieśpielak claimed that a third Witcher 3 story expansion was in development at Fool's Theory. This report quickly made the rounds online and several other industry insiders (such as NateTheHate) claimed to have also heard that a new Witcher 3 DLC was in the works. Things really started heating up in December 2025 when market analyst Mateusz Chrzanowski claimed that “the next paid add-on (DLC) for The Witcher 3” would release in May 2026. Despite being the subject of widespread speculation for the best part of a year, CD Projekt Red and Fool's Theory have remained tight-lipped about the existence of a new Witcher 3 DLC. Until today.
Why Detective Mode Was the Worst Thing to Happen to Stealth Games
Detective Mode is a prominent feature in stealth and investigation games, and I really wish that it hadn't become as popular as it has.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Releases in 2027
Ahead of its intended announcement on tomorrow's Witcher 3: Blood and Wine anniversary REDStream, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's Songs of the Past DLC leaked via the RED Launcher. Rather than ignore the leak and continue with its plan to reveal Songs of the Past tomorrow, CD Projekt Red decided to announce The Witcher 3's upcoming 2027 expansion early.

Not much is currently known about this DLC, only that players will be assuming the role of Geralt once more and that the DLC is being co-developed by Fool's Theory. Fool's Theory is an independent Polish video game developer that was founded in 2015 by former CD Projekt Red devs. In 2017, Fool's Theory released its debut title, Seven: The Days Long Gone, an open-world isometric stealth action-RPG that has 'Mostly Positive' user reviews on Steam. In 2024, Fool's Theory released The Thaumaturge, another isometric RPG and one that received a strong Top Critic Average of 76 on OpenCritic.
As well as working on this new Witcher 3 DLC, Fool's Theory is also developing a full remake of the first Witcher game. This remake of the 2007 action-RPG was first announced back in October 2022 and there's been very little word on it since. It's currently unclear when The Witcher remake could release, or how close that release will be to The Witcher 3's new DLC. Despite having a trailer out already, there's also no word on The Witcher 4's release date, with some reports claiming that the long-awaited Ciri-led sequel could still be years away.
