If you're going to survive the deepest depths of Subnautica 2's world, you're going to need to get used to crafting with all the resources you find on the alien planet. Whether you're building out your base or crafting some new gear to help you explore further and faster than before, chances are you're going to need Copper relatively early on in your adventure. As is the case with pretty much everything in the game, however, nothing is clearly signposted. Here's how to get copper in Subnautica 2 and some of the crafting recipes you'll need it for immediately.

Subnautica 2 Buyer’s Guide for Early Access
Subnautica 2 launches in early access on May 14 with co-op multiplayer, Game Pass support, leviathans, vehicles, and years of planned updates.
How to Get Copper in Subnautica 2
Copper can be found in the cave underneath the coral dome peaking out of the water 30m east of the Lifepod.
Once you've got here, you'll need to swim into the dome and then continue to dive into the cave system beneath it. Here, you'll find copper ore nodes on the floor and walls, as shown in the screenshot below. This is where you'll find copper closest to your lifepod.
Each of these smaller nodes will give you one copper.
It's worth noting that copper isn't solely located in the coral dome to the east of the lifepod. The best place I found copper in the early game of Subnautica 2 was 130m east of the lifepod, beyond the cave that has a strong current of water coming out of the top.
Just past this strong water current cave, you'll find another cave opening. Head inside, and you'll find several copper ore nodes on the ceiling and walls here. There is also a larger formation of copper that you can find that can be broken with your hands. These give upwards of three copper once broken. This makes farming copper relatively easy if you know where to go.
Be careful when exploring this cave (and others in the nearby area). There are poison-spewing plants that will deal damage if you swim through or near their poison clouds.
I've also found copper to the north, towards the Old Habitat and Camp Zero POIs. These are roughly 300–400 m north of the lifepod, so it'll take you a bit longer to reach them, but you'll go there anyway as part of your main objectives.
What Is Copper Used for in Subnautica 2?
Copper has a number of uses early in Subnautica 2, including some of the items or components you'll want to build for your base. It's also required to make Copper Wire, which becomes a core crafting component for other useful items and base components. I've listed the main crafting recipes that require Copper in the early hours of Subnautica 2 below:
- Mild Acid
- Basic Battery
- Copper Wire
- Fabricator
- Small Ceiling Light
