Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds Entertainment shared a roadmap of the features players can expect in the future, including a new region and the return of a fan-favorite suit. The Subnautica 2 development team also thanked fans for their continued support during the game's early access window.
It's no secret that Subnautica 2 is one of the hottest games of 2026 so far. Within hours of it's early access launch on May 14, over 467,000 Steam users were concurrently playing Subnautica 2. Although Subnautica 2's Steam player count has dropped to approximately 26,000 concurrent users as of this writing, that has not stopped players from diving into Unknown Worlds' hit early access title. Unknown Worlds stated that more fixes and content drops for Subnautica 2 are currently in development thanks to the continued feedback that players have provided across social media.

Reports indicate that "AI-First" company and publisher Krafton agrees to pay the contested $250 million bonus to Subnautica 2 developer UWE.

Subnautica 2 design lead Anthony Gallegos hosted a vlog to give players an update on what is coming to the game over the next several weeks. Gallegos started the vlog by stating that Subnautica 2 had sold over four million units worldwide and thanked players for the overwhelming support. Gallegos then stated that the first updates Subnautica 2 players can expect will address some lingering bugs via hotfix patches. Gallegos also confirmed some features coming in Subnautica 2's EA1.1 content drop, such as new Biomods, visibility changes to Blight encounters, and the ability to replay voice logs via the PDA databank. Gallegos also confirmed that emotes and proximity chat are in development for Subnautica 2's multiplayer mode, though he did not give a timetable for when it would be added to the game.
Subnautica 2 will also improve the performance of the game's Epic graphical preset, which should result in higher frame rates for PC gamers playing at the highest quality settings. Players looking for new ways to traverse the depths of Subnautica 2 are in luck. Gallego hinted that players should "get ready to get stompy" in one of Subnautica 2's future updates. In short, the PRAWN Suit will soon make its long-awaited return. The PRAWN Suit last appeared in Subnautica: Below Zero. Despite the name, the PRAWN Suit is a vehicle that the player can control and upgrade with various gathering tools or predator deterrents.
Gallegos also teased a new region coming in one of Subnautica 2's next major content updates, as players will explore the home of the Collector Leviathan. Currently, Subnautica 2 players may encounter the squid-like Collector Leviathan wandering the deep-sea trench east of the Lifepod. However, players will not need to start a new playthrough to explore the Collector Leviathan's home region, as players can easily pick up where they left off once the new region is released.

Once the Collector Leviathan's home region is available, Subnautica 2 will introduce more new creatures and resources for players to discover. However, there is currently no timetable for when Unknown Worlds will release any of Subnautica 2's upcoming content drops. It remains to be seen what other surprises the development team has in store for Subnautica 2 fans.
