The Scanner is by far the most important tool in Subnautica 2, as making progress without it is impossible. However, when you unlock the second region of the game, you will need a new, advanced type of scanning, only made possible through upgrades.

The Bioscanner comes into play here and is an improved version of the basic scanner that you'll want to get if you want to scan alien tech, plants, and creatures in the ocean for passive and active Biomods. Luckily for you, we've got just the guide to follow.

You will need to have a Repair Tool to get the Bioscanner blueprint, and you can click here for details on how to get one!

How to Get the Bioscanner Blueprint in Subnautica 2

Tower with Purple Lights - Subnautica 2 Image: GameRant via Unknown Worlds Entertainment

To get the Bioscanner blueprint, you only need to scan one instance. You can find this area once you have the Alien Ruins unlocked, which is found at the second region's starting point.

If you already have the Blackbox – Iso mission available, that signal will directly guide you towards the Bioscanner. If not, follow this direction:

  • Start from Alien Ruins and target 125 degrees, between east and southeast.
  • Move in this direction until you spot a tall tower with four purple lights at the top.
  • The lights are shiny enough that you can see them in the dark as well.
  • The crashed base is on the left side of the tower, on the edge of a tall cliff.
  • You don’t need to change your direction at all. Just keep moving and make sure the headlights are on, and you will spot the base eventually.
  • Your distance from Alien Ruins should be around 540 meters when you are in front of the crashed base.
  • Now, follow the left side of the base until you spot an open door with a number 73 marked on top of it.

Once you're inside the base, you can repair the first door on your right and enter. From here, take the first left, and in the far corner of the next room, you can find a hatch on the floor that leads to a narrow tunnel.

Follow inside the tunnel and keep moving straight, where you will then run into a cracked opening. Continue downwards through the open doors, and you will find the Bioscanner at the end of the path near a damaged door.

After you have scanned the Bioscanner and received the blueprint, it's time to exit the base. Thanks to the Repair Tool, you can easily repair the broken door using the Bioscanner to exit via a shortcut.

The Bioscanner isn't all you'll find in this base. There are some other devices and decorations that you can scan, so take your time and explore the crashed base carefully if you have a big enough oxygen tank.

How to Craft the Bioscanner in Subnautica 2

Modification Station Requirement - Subnautica 2 Image: GameRant via Unknown Worlds Entertainment

The Scanner can only be upgraded with a Modification Station at your base, which requires the following ingredients:

Once you have the Modification Station up and running, you can craft the Bioscanner with the following materials:

  • x2 Enameled Glass
  • x3 Conduit Crystals
  • x1 Scanner

Once the processing has completed, you'll be rewarded with the Bioscanner, which still uses a single battery you will need to recharge, but can scan far more than the original version.

Even if you have scanned some creatures before with the Scanner, you should scan them again with the Bioscanner to unlock the corresponding Biomods.
