In Subnautica 2, Salt is a crafting material required in the production of various types of foods and Power Cell related technology. Since a Power Cell is required for crafting the Tadpole and other useful items, it is a necessary base material needed for core progression. While Salt isn’t available in the early game areas near the Lifepod, it is fairly easy to get to and obtain if players know where to look. Here’s the breakdown.

Where to Find Salt in Subnautica 2
The vast majority of Salt in Subnautica 2 grows in the dead coral biome that’s located past the lava biome with the Sulfur and Gold deposits. However, because this area is very far, roughly 500m away from the Lifepod, it makes it a time-consuming journey, especially for players who don’t have access to the Tadpole. Luckily, if you’re in need of some early and don’t want to make the long trek, there is a location near the Lifepod where you can find Salt.

The first location where you can find Salt in Subnautica 2 is found roughly 200m SE of the Lifepod, at the spot where the Blackbox - Chap signal is emerging from. If you haven’t yet progressed to the point of the story where NoA marks the Blackbox - Chap signal for you, here’s how you get there.
Go to your Lifepod and orient yourself so that the SE marker is directly in the middle of the compass HUD while you’re floating directly below the Lifepod. Then swim straight for 200m before stopping. Look down, and if you see that the ground has a distinct rust color with orangish-brown algae growing on it, you’ll know you’re in the right spot.
Look for a cave formation nearby that has a tall, thin spire rising from its center, breaching the surface of the ocean. There will be a clearing nearby with a large Coral Crab hibernating inside it. Enter the cave, and you’ll find some deposits of Salt on the walls, at a depth of roughly 40m.
If you build the Scanner Station in your base, you can track Salt (and any other resource) within a 300m radius instantly, making finding specific things very convenient.
Location #2: Dead Coral Biome

The highest density of Salt deposits in Subnautica 2 is found in the dead coral biome, located 500m SE of the Lifepod, past the lava region. You don’t actually need Heat Tolerance Adaptation to get to this location, and can reach here just skirting the outer edge of the heat fog surrouding the lava biome.
To do this, head SE in a straight line from the Lifepod. At roughly 350m, you’ll reach the edge of the lava biome (you’ll know you’re here when the temperature starts heating up suddenly). When you get here, keep swimming just on the edge in cool waters until the orange fog that represents the starting point of the lava biome dissipates. When it does, turn your compass East, and you’ll immediately enter the dead coral biome.
This biome is filled with dead coral crabs with calcinated, white coral shells half-buried in the sand. Every white coral dome you find here will have dozens of Salt deposits on its surface, which you can simply swim up and grab.
Large deposits of Salt also appear within the lava biome. However, since they are not concentrated in one area, farming large quantities of Salt from them is not very efficient.
