In Subnautica 2, Quartz is a basic crafting material required for making tools, electronics, base modules, furniture, and a dozen other things. Knowing where and how to mine Quartz is crucial for smooth progression at all stages of the game. Luckily, this is a fairly abundant resource if you know where to look. Here’s the breakdown.

Where to Find Quartz in Subnautica 2
In Subnautica 2, Quartz is mainly found growing on the inside of Coral Domes in the shallow waters surrounding the Lifepod at the very start of the game. Coral Domes are large, spherical formations of orange color that are hollow on the inside with a bright blue, almost luminescent interior.
You’ll find dozens of these Coral Domes at a depth of roughly 10-30m in the shallow waters in the starting area. Simply explore the region surrounding the Lifepod and run into them easily.

Scanner Station
One of the most useful base modules you can unlock in Subnautica 2 is the Scanner Station. This is a module that can track any resource within a 300m range of the base it is installed in, including Quartz. The Scanner Station can be unlocked by finding and scanning its fragments within Alterra bases/Cicada wrecks in Subnautica 2.

Best Place to Farm Quartz in Subnautica 2
Spider Dome
In the early game of Subnautica 2, the best location for farming Quartz is the Spider Dome, a massive hollow sphere of coral that has nearly 100 pieces of Quartz growing on its inner surface.
The best part is that every single Quartz node within this dome is a small one, and you don’t need to worry about mining large Quartz deposits; it’s all done by hand. In addition to that, the Spider Dome is also located near the surface and outside of any hazardous areas, meaning you can get here and mine the entire dome at the very start of the game without any tools or upgrades.
The Spider Dome is located just above the Wander - Blackbox signal that NoA will mark for you as part of the story of Subnautica 2. It towers over the circular hole that is blocked by the Bloom Biofilm, which you need to destroy with a Sonic Resonator to progress further. However, even if you haven’t yet received the Wander - Blackbox signal from NoA just yet, you can still go to the Spider Dome and get Quartz; there are no barriers to entry.
To get to the Spider Dome from the Lifepod, face the Lifepod and turn your compass between 240 and 245 (directly in the middle of SW and W). Then swim straight ahead for 220m, and you’ll reach the Spider Dome. Look for a gigantic mass of orange coral whose “legs” are extending out from its central core, anchoring it to the nearby seafloor. Swim through any of the holes to find the Quartz.
Camp One
- Requirement: Sonic Resonator
Roughly 300m NE of the Lifepod lies a large wreck called Camp One, a large network of collapsed habitats that used to be home to a community of colonists. In the immediate vicinity of Camp One are some island-like rock formations with a flat top. On many of these “islands,” you’ll see purple octopus-like lifeforms with purple limbs and glowing blue orbs on their heads. Once you spot these octopus creatures, you’ll know you’re in the right spot.
Large Quartz deposits appear quite frequently on and around these island formations, making this the perfect spot to farm Quartz in the mid-game. Of course, farming Quartz from this area will only be possible after you’ve unlocked the Sonic Resonator, since that tool is required to break open large ore deposits.
