Lead is a type of crafting material in Subnautica 2 required to make a Sonic Resonator, one of the most useful tools in the game, which is used for mining large ore deposits. Unlike Titanium or Copper, which are common resources, Lead is quite uncommon, especially in the starting area.

In the early game, you’ll only find Lead in a specific location that is a good distance away from the Lifepod. For players who don’t know the exact spot to watch out for, finding Lead can be quite tricky. Here’s the breakdown. You can find additional resources in our complete Subnautica 2 materials directory.

Where to Find Lead in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, the earliest location where you can find Lead is on the ocean floor underneath the Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage), a landmark located exactly 340m NE of the Lifepod.

To get here, face the Lifepod and turn your compass to NE, then shift it until the center marker is between the NE and 60 mark, as shown in the screenshot above.

Now swim in a straight line for exactly 340m, look down, and you’ll find a large shipwreck just below. Explore the sea floor underneath and around the Cicada Wreck, and you’ll find hundreds of Lead deposits, big and small, for you to pick up.

The Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage) is very close to the Blackbox - Ruby signal. If NoA has already marked that signal for you, you can use that as a reference point instead. However, since this signal only becomes available once you progress to a certain point in the story, we’ve used the universal Lifepod landmark as the main reference point instead to ensure you’re able to find Lead right from the start of the game.

Types of Lead Deposits

There are two types of Lead deposits I’ve found so far in Subnautica 2:

Small

Large

Sonic Resonator

It is possible that there are Medium Lead deposits in the game as well, one that can be broken by hand. However, I haven’t found any so far in my playthrough.

Scanner Station

One of the base modules you can get in Subnautica 2 is called the Scanner Station. It is a base module you can unlock the blueprint for by scanning its fragments found in Alterra shipwrecks scattered in the game world. When placed in a base, it can scan and track every single resource within a 300m radius of your base, making it incredibly easy to find the exact location of Lead and other ores.

However, because the Scanner Station’s range is limited to 300m, make sure you build your base at least 100m NE of the Lifepod so that the Lead deposits found underneath the Cicada Wreck fall within its range.
