Strong Acid is a crucial material in Subnautica 2 that is required for crafting multiple core blueprints, including a Tadpole, which you absolutely need to unlock in order to progress through the game. Strong Acid can either be crafted by using Necrolei Cyst, a type of plant life that grows in a very specific biome, or by combining Sulfur and Gold, neither of which spawn anywhere near the starting area of the game.
This guide covers the exact location where players can find Necrolei Cysts, and how players can process it into Strong Acid. Here’s the breakdown. You can find additional resources in our Subnautica 2 guide directory.

Necrolei Cysts can be found in a unique biome that’s located exactly 300m NW of the Lifepod. To get here, float directly underneath the Lifepod and turn your compass HUD’s center marker to the NW symbol. Then swim in a straight line for exactly 300m and look around.
You should see a biome that consists largely of gigantic plant-like organisms shaped vaguely like flowers, with a dark green, ridged body and pink frills on the edges of their “petals.” When you see these organisms, you’ll know you’re in the right place.
Once you’re here, look around for clusters of green onion-like plants attached to the seafloor by multiple pink feelers or “roots,” with a small flower growing on the topside of the bulb. These are Stilt Orbs, and the flower on their top is the Necrolei Cyst. You can get one Necrolei Cyst from each Stilt Orb by cutting it off using the Survival Multitool.
Stilt Orbs almost always grow in clusters of two to eight, which means you’ll be able to get at least as many Necrolei Cysts from them each time you harvest them. The Stilt Orbs themselves cannot be harvested or interacted with.
The Scanner Station base module can pinpoint the exact location of Necrolei Cysts (and other resources).

Sulfur and Gold Location
Both Sulfur and Gold can be found in the lava biome in Subnautica 2, which can only be accessed after you’ve unlocked the Heat Tolerance Adaptation. This area is located roughly 230m SE of the Lifepod.
- Sulfur deposits are yellow in color, and spawn in large numbers near volcanic activity. Look for small patches of yellow hidden in nooks and crannies in the lava biome, and you’ll find Sulfur.
- Gold deposits form around the large stone columns and arches in the shape of large honeycombs. These deposits can be mined using a Sonic Resonator, yielding 5 Gold ore pieces every time.
