Steam users can now claim Aeonic, a text-based adventure game, completely free of charge. But as is the case with all games in Steam's Free-to-Keep promotion, users need to be quick, as Aeonic will only be free for a limited time.

While the Epic Games Store does its regular weekly free giveaways, Steam's ongoing Free-to-Keep promotion is a tad more irregular. Seemingly at any time, one or more games will suddenly be offered on Steam with a 100% discount, allowing users to add the game to their library for no charge at all. Once claimed, Steam users can then play the game for free for as long as they'd like, with it remaining in their library permanently.

Titanium Court turns Candy Crush gameplay into something straight out of Slay the Spire, but its Stanley Parable-style writing steals the show.

Claim Aeonic for Free on Steam

The latest free Steam game is Aeonic, a text-based adventure game developed by Erik Khachatryan and Hayk Khachatryan. In Aeonic, players begin at the dawn of humanity and must make their way through key eras of history by making choices. For instance, one of Aeonic's early screens will show artwork of a mammoth hunt and players will be prompted to either "Throw the spear" or "Shoot the bow." Each of these options will lead to a different screen of text that describes the outcome of the player's choice, before the game moves on to the next historical era and the process repeats.

While Aeonic was released in November 2024, it's remained under-the-radar until now, with just one Steam user review being posted prior to this recent 100% discount. That said, since Aeonic has joined Steam's Free-to-Keep promotion, another 20 or so user reviews have been posted, the majority of which are negative in nature. Most recent user reviews for Aeonic criticize the game's writing and point out that the game uses generative AI for its artwork. This is confirmed by the game's Steam AI disclaimer, which features a statement from the developers that reads, "Generative AI tools are used to create some of the assets."

Steam Users Can Claim Another Free Game If They're Quick

Aeonic isn't the only game Steam users can currently claim for free. SurrounDead Poly Construction is another game being offered with a 100% discount. Developed by LivingEveryday and released in November 2025, SurrounDead Poly Construction is an open-world survival adventure game played from a third-person perspective that features both single-player and multiplayer modes. The game's official Steam page claims that it also features a "a relaxed and casual atmosphere."

Unfortunately, SurrounDead Poly Construction suffers a similar critical fate as Aeonic, with its recent reviews giving the game a "Mostly Negative" user score. Many reviews accuse the game of being an "asset flip" that looks and plays too similarly to the developer's past games. Many users also point out that while SurrounDead Poly Construction is currently free on Steam, the developers have released 15 paid DLCs, all while the game is still in Steam early access and is deemed an unfinished product.
