In the universe of the series Solo Leveling, the abrupt emergence of the so-called Gates with monsters changes society forever. In order to fight these dangers, some humans also awoke and gained some supernatural powers, becoming Hunters. S-Rank: The Nation's Peak

Sung Jinwoo

Solo Leveling mainly focuses on the distinct character of a player (Sung Jinwoo) that begins by being the weakest in the world and a being that becomes the strongest in the world. His power as the Shadow Monarch is one that cannot be compared with any other S-Rank, since he can grow indefinitely. Although he has a hundred different skills and abilities by the end of the series and if we count his actual skill abilities (Solo Leveling: Arise). His main strength would be "Shadow Extraction", which allows him to extract conquered enemies' souls into his loyal shadow soldiers who will fight with him, making him an army of his own.

In addition to his shadows, he has many other overpowered abilities, like "Shadow Exchange" that allows him to switch places and teleport with any shadow. Also, "Ruler Authority", the ability to move things or enemies through his mind, whereby he can even move things silently. He is also a master of Stealth, and thus he is an ideal assassin, since he can attack from the shadows, even before the enemy knows his presence. He does not just clear dungeons, but conquers them, reforms the rules of the Hunter world.

Go Gunhee

Go Gunhee was not only the first S-rank hunter from Korea, but also the strongest one of his time. He is also a ruler's vessel, and the Chairman of the Korean Hunter Association. His mana is so huge even at his old age, that the majority of S-Ranks are overwhelmed by a strong sense of pressure when they are too close to him. He is the supreme Korean authority that is concerned with the politics and security of the Hunter system and not active raiding.

His abilities include great physical strength and the golden and divine energy that identifies him as a part of light known as the "Fragment of Brilliant Light". Although his old age does not enable him to fight to his full ability over a long distance, his "Ruler's Authority" enables him to bend the battlefield and expect change to God-like accuracy. He is the pillar which holds the Korean Hunter society together and a beacon of hope.

Cha Hae-In

She is also a master swordswoman; a female S-Rank in South Korea and the Vice-Guildmaster of the Hunters Guild. She also has a special passive skill of sensing the mana of other people (which is why most Hunters tend to smell like rotting garbage to her), except Sung Jinwoo, who has a sweet smell. This is a gift of the senses which enables her to trace enemies and detect power levels with a hundred percent accuracy.

During combat, she is known to have used her "Sword of Light" weapon that gives her a higher speed and cutting power, reaching blinding heights. She is as graceful as a dancer rather than a brawler, and hits key areas with the precision of a scalpel, hence why she's called the "Dancer." She is widely regarded as one of the quickest and the most talented duelists in the whole series.

Choi Jong-In

He is also called The Ultimate Hunter, is the Guildmaster of the Hunters Guild, and the highest-ranking Mage in the country whose mana reserves as a mage are second only to Jinwoo and Christopher Reed. He is an expert in Fire Magic to the point where it can destroy huge armies of monsters within a matter of seconds. His presence on the field of battle is often a surety that the mission of clearing the field is already secured, since he can cause havoc at a safe distance.

Among his signature moves are the "Flame Spear" and the "Flame dragon", which unleash the target in huge doses of heat. Though as strong as he is, his biggest weakness is close combat. He does have strong durability (he survived a direct frontal slash from the Ant King) but he still cannot win any 1v1 close combat battles, despite being Baek Yoonho's rival. Though his ability to organize and plan the guilds of the country and his tactical understanding enable him to organize the strongest guilds and do so with perfect efficiency. He symbolizes the ultimate destructive magic in Korea.

Baek Yoonho

The Guildmaster of the White Tiger Guild is a type of fighter that specializes in Beast Transformation. He is able to turn into a giant white tiger in part or entirely and this drastically enhances his physical power, speed and stamina. His senses are keen on his transfigured condition to the state of animals, and he becomes a nightmare in a hand-to-hand battle.

His combat mode is vicious and very straightforward as he uses his claws and brute strength to tear through the monsters. He may seem to intimidate all those that see him, but he is a leader who is very loyal, and he puts the safety of his guild first before anything. He is among the few S-Ranks to realize the growth in Jinwoo at an early stage, indicating that he has keen instincts.

Min Byung-Gyu

Min Byung-Gyu was the only S-Rank Healer in Korea, and arguably one of the strongest healers in the whole series and thus, the most invaluable support resource in the country before his retirement. His healing magic was very strong to the extent of miraculously re-forming detached limbs and restoring warriors who were on the verge of death. He also had an ability of disguise which enables him to be totally invisible, thus enabling him to remain safe when assisting his team, which did not prove much useful, let's be honest.

As opposed to the majority of S-Ranks, he developed a phobia towards the dungeons and fighting as a whole after seeing the results of the Jeju Island raids. His retirement was a huge defeat to the raiding potential of Korea because his buffs and defensive wards were the only ones that enabled other S-Ranks to fight to their max potential. He serves as a sad lesson about the mental cost of being a hunter.

Ma Dongwook

Being the Guildmaster of the Shining Star Guild, he is the best of the S-Ranks Tanks. His main ability is "Gigantification", which enables him to increase his physical dimensions and bulk. This change does not merely make him stronger, but his skin becomes as hard as reinforced steel and can absorb the amount of damage that would immediately knock out any fighter or mage Hunter.

During a raid, he is the object that is not moved and distracts the boss when the Mages and Fighters are working. He is the frontal bastion of South Korea in the literal sense and his heroic personality is the best front line leader. As he expands, he has sufficient physical force to stop a rushing group of elite monsters.

Lim Tae-Gyu

The Guildmaster of the Fiend Guild is the best S-Rank Ranger in the nation, and is a long-range mana archer. He does not bring a physical bow but makes a bow with pure magic power and launches the so-called Mana Arrows, which can penetrate even the strongest armor. He is an accurate shooter and is capable of sniping at objects even at kilometers.

He is needed to give cover fire and kill high-priority targets before they can get to the front lines. Although his physical strength may not be as crude as that of a tank such as Ma Dongwook, the utility and ability to control crowds is necessitated by raids in mass during large-scale attacks. He is a master of positioning as he always makes himself up ahead before a fight starts.

Hwang Dongsoo

He is one of the most powerful S-Ranks of Korean origin, though he later relocated to the United States to be paid better and attain higher status. He is a fighter who depends on his sheer physical strength and an inhumane and violent fighting style. He is characterized by his huge ego and his revenge over the people he sees as having offended him.

His biggest strength is his toughness, which enables him to endure magic attacks to approach his enemies to squash them with his bare hands. He is the darker half of the Hunter society — a man who employs his god-like authority in personal interests and revenge, instead of protecting humanity.

Sung Il-Hwan

The father of Sung Jinwoo, he vanished into a dungeon over several years only to come back with power that can even match the National Level Hunters. Similar to Go Gunhee, he is a Vessel of a Ruler, that is, he has a Spiritual Body Manifestation. This enables him to become a huge, radiant being of pure divine strength capable of exchanging blows with Monarchs.

His approach to fighting is incredibly quick and deadly as he uses daggers and his Ruler's Authority as a way to overcome the battlefield. He is among only a handful of creatures on the planet who are capable of tracing the movements of threats on high levels. When he returned, his main intention was to save his son, and this indicated that he was still a human being even though he had the power of a god.

Lee Eunseok

One of the only S-rank hunters from Korea that we knew very little about, as Lee Eunseok was killed during the 3rd raid on Jeju Island. From what was shown, it was clear that he was indeed very strong, but Jeju island was simply too much.

He used a pair of dual claws which were loaded with lightning magic of high voltage, and he cut them with lightning-charged, high-velocity shots. His short role in the series clearly showed us the difference between lower rank dungeons and S-rank ones and the intimidating power of the swarm of the Ant Queen.

A-Rank: The Elite Vanguard

Woo Jinchul

Being the Chief of the Surveillance Team of the Association, he is generally regarded as the Peak of A-Rank. He is powerful to the extent that he can at times match the movement of the S-Ranks, which no one in his tier can do. His ability is Physical Reinforcement, which is a technique called the Iron Fist, which causes his blows to be felt as a wrecking ball.

He is the right-hand of the Chairman Go Gunhee, and is engaged in the hazardous role of tracking rouge S-Ranks. He is characterized by professionalism, his slicked back hair and suit, which do not appear to be wrinkled after a brawl. He is the one to connect the world of administration with the dungeons.

Lee Minsung

This Hunter is a well-known celebrity and actor who is leveraging on his A-Rank status mainly to gain fame and brand deals. Although he has good physical attributes and mana, he does not have the warrior heart that is possessed by front-line hunters such as Woo Jinchul. He will not take dangerous raids unless he is sure that they will be safe and have good PR.

His arrogance is what characterizes him, because he tends to put his nose up on the other hunters who rank below him. But when confronted with a tangible, elevated danger, he is appallingly weak in showing any experience of combat whatsoever. He is an excellent illustration of how Hunter society has been commercialized, where rank is at times as a means of vanity and not service.

Son Kihoon

The Hunters Guild Tank leader, he is a courageous and talented pilot, as is customary for him, who, on numerous occasions, leads the B-Team raids. He has a huge shield and is specialized in defensive barriers that shield his whole squad against magic having AOE attacks. He is a textbook case of a professional A-rank, who understands his boundaries but will never give up.

At the time of the raid by the High Orc, it was his leadership that saved his team until Sung Jinwoo came. He has a great sense of chivalry, responsibility and the people he works with can count on him to keep his head steady when the pressure is on. He may not be as powerful as an S-Rank, but because of his consistency, he is a vital ingredient to making the guild successful.

Seo Jiwoo

This is an outstanding Hunters Guild member, an A-Rank fighter who is one of the most distinctive brawlers of the series. She was central in the high orc dungeon raid, and she was on the frontline as a fighter when the squad became almost overwhelmed. The difference is that she is not an average mage who prefers to keep her distance but survives in the center of the fray, with her amazing reflexes and physical abilities.

Her fighting approach is based on the so-called Water Boxing, in which she sprays her fists with high-pressure water and uses this to unleash an overpowering blow. This force of natural water element empowerment enables her hits to strike like a crashing wave and break apart monster armor easily. She plays like a fast-paced “Magic Fighter” that is positioned between a conventional tank and a long-range caster.

Kim Chul

This is an A-Rank Tank who had fame because of his huge size and a bigger ego and was originally a star of the White Tiger Guild. In the Red Gate incident, he displayed arrogance and a lack of leadership and this split the group, with the result being his downfall. When he tried to turn over against his own comrades, especially when he tried to blame everything on Jinwoo and ran to attack him, he was killed by Igris at Jinwoo's command.

He had skills like defensive reinforcement where he would absorb the damage with a giant shield and heavy armor. His shadow was extracted after his death to form the loyal soldier "Iron". Being a shadow mellowed his personality a lot, he still has his huge power and obtains a Taunt power, forcing his opponents to force their attacks against him, thus becoming an ideal shield in the front lines of the Shadow Army.

Gina

She is a high-level mage in the Hunters Guild, and she works with Son Kihoon on the frontline. She is a fire elemental mage, and she uses her mana to make strong bursts of attacks and buffs her allies, which are capable of clearing a crowd of middle-tier monsters. Though the series did not explore much of her abilities, Solo Leveling: Arise explored her skills as a support mage, one that could buff and heal both.

Lee Bora

She is a high-ranking member of the White Tiger Guild, an uncommon sort of Mage, a Summoner. She does not engage in combat herself, but rather summons phantom animals to do the combat on her behalf with the help of her mana. This enables her to dominate the battleground and guard herself as her summons do all the work.

Her summons is an extension of her will, and it gives an offense and defense to her team. The White Tiger Guild appreciates her capability of strengthening the ranks of the fighters on the field without having to bring in additional individuals. She is composed, observant and very experienced at controlling her mana levels when they are on long raids. She was also the only one to sense Jinwoo when he was invisible during the High Orc Dungeon.

Yoo Soohyun

Being the cousin of Yoo Jinho and an A-Rank Mage of the highest tier, she was invited to join the Ahjin Guild to fill in the legal demand of a third member. Although she was a renowned model at the beginning, she demonstrated her ability in the risky dungeon raids with Jinwoo.

She is a strong long-range expert who employs the power of magic to launch destructive shots from a distance by using her mana as energy. She is meant to be used as a backline fire support(which is funny since for a support she deals serious damage) even in Solo Leveling: Arise, she was a contender for the top fire DPS in the game for a very long time.

Han Semi

This was an A-Rank Healer and a critical figure in the dangerous High-Orc dungeon as she was able to heal most of the injured hunters, and was a key member of the Knights Guild. Her soothing presence and the top support magic made her one of the most trusted healers in Korea following the retirement(later death) of Min Byung-Gyu.

Her main strength is high restoration magic, which allows her to heal serious wounds and even restore missing body parts to her comrades on the battlefield. She acts as the final line of defense of her raid team, keeping them alive on the impossible front. Though not much is shown about her in the series itself, in Solo Leveling Arise, she's one of the best support and mage characters that uses the wind element to help her whole team deal more damage while constantly being healed.

B-Rank: The Dungeon Clearers

Lee Joohee

She is a gifted B-Rank Healer, and one of the first people Sung Jinwoo ever befriended as an E-Rank. Her healing magic is quite good for a B-rank hunter, but it's her lack of courage and belief in herself that makes her seem weak. Furthermore, she was also permanently scarred by traumatic experiences and the PTSD of Hunter as a result of the events in the Double Dungeon that causes her to often become frozen in situations of high stress.

She is also a very loving individual who made raids most of the time just to keep an eye on the weak Jinwoo despite her fear. The trauma she has experienced eventually becomes overwhelming, and she retires to the hunt and settles in the country living a peaceful life. She is the emotional center of the initial narrative, who symbolizes the frailty of those in the Hunter system.

Kang Taeshik

He is a B-Rank assassin of the Hunter Association Surveillance Team who has a dark streak. He also has the Stealth power, enabling him to become invisible and walk into the shadows without a sound. In contrast to Jinwoo, he operates in state-approved executions as well as he loves the thrill of the kill too much.

He uses two daggers and betrays on quickness of sight to finish fights even before they started. He is a dangerous rogue element as his personality is cold and predatory. He is later brought to the ground by Jinwoo and this is one of the first times we hear the protagonist going head-on with a human opponent who is a professional killer.

C, D and E-Rank: The Workers and Underdogs.

Song Chiyul (C-Rank)

He is a retired Mage and the master of the Kendo (the art of the sword) of Japan. Although he is a C-Rank Mage, he uses a blade so well that he even taught the S-Rank Cha Hae-In. He is a wise, principled man who led the unfortunate invasion of the Double Dungeon, endangering his own life, so that others may get free.

He is a jack of all trades as he employs simple Fire Magic to complement his sword blows. He is not interested in fame or fortune, he takes hunting as a challenge and a profession. The fact that he lost his arm during the Double Dungeon is a permanent reminder of the courage of the Hunter and the price of the life of a Hunter.

Hwang Dongsuk (C-Rank)

Hwang Dongsuk and His Lizard Crew – Solo Leveling Episode 6

The elder brother of the S-Rank, Hwang Dongsoo, was a tank who led a group of "Lizards" — hunters who killed their teammates in order to take all the spoils to themselves. He is physically well-built and carries shields, and could harden his body to be as hard as steel and no ordinary blade could pierce his skin, but the real power of his is his absence of a moral compass. He is a symbol of the predatory instinct of low-level hunting.

He was not a hero, he was a criminal who took advantage of the lawlessness of the dungeons to cover up his crimes. This arrogance would later end his life as he attempts to eliminate Sung Jinwoo. It was his death at the hands of Jinwoo that leads to the old-time rivalry between the main character and the S-Rank Dongsoo.

Cho Kyuhwan (C-Rank Mage)

He was an E-rank dungeon mage, the Mage of the Lizard party, and employed his fire and light magic to help Hwang Dongsuk commit his crimes. It is up to him to trap Jinwoo and Jinho in the boss room of a C-rank dungeon. He is the cowardice of people that apply their magic and bully the weak instead of fighting the monsters.

Yoo Jinho (D-Rank)

Yoo Jinho – Solo Leveling Episode 8

The best friend of Jinwoo and Ahjin Guild Vice-Guildmaster. Even though he is of D-Rank Tank, his family is very wealthy, and the extremely high cost of the armor of the highest tier in the world enables him to purchase it, which grants him a substantial amount of durability. He is extremely courageous and is the only one who has defended Jinwoo from the start.

He does not need to kill the monsters, his job is to take care of Jinwoo and to take care of the business side of the guild. His devotion is his actual superpower; he has been near to death a few times only to remain with Jinwoo. He later turns out to be a good leader at a level of his own, taking control of the logistics of the strongest guild in the world.

Han Song-Yi (E-Rank)

An E-rank hunter, a high school student and friend of Jinah (Jinwoo's sister), she at first wanted to be a hunter to earn quick money but sooner realized that a job as a hunter is not as easy as it seems. She possesses very simple physical enhancement but is practically the same level as any ordinary human with no noticeable skills or powers, same as Jinwoo before he was chosen by the system. Later on, Jinwoo takes her under his wing in order to demonstrate to her the realities of the dungeons, and she starts to rethink her career choice.
