This article was updated by Andrea Trama on May 9, 2026, with a list of Resident Evil games where Ada Wong appears. It was first published on April 29.

Resident Evil fans have been wondering why Ada Wong was absent from Resident Evil Requiem since the game's release, and now the developers have supplied an answer. While many assumed that Ada would appear at some point, it seems that leaving her out of Resident Evil Requiem was more a matter of practicality than anything else.

With a series as long-running as Resident Evil, there are bound to be characters that get left by the wayside. Chronologically, Ada has been around more recently than some other main characters, like Jill Valentine, who hasn't been seen in the story's main timeline since Resident Evil 5, aside from a spin-off movie. However, Ada's absence was particularly felt in Resident Evil Requiem because she and Leon have always appeared in games together since their original debut in Resident Evil 2.

Capcom's Resident Evil is the definitive horror franchise, but the games are not equally scary. RE7, Village, RE4, and Requiem are top contenders.

Resident Evil Requiem Left Ada Out for Practical Reasons

In an interview with Denfaminico Gamer, game director Akifumi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa sat down to discuss Resident Evil Requiem. In addition to talking about things like Resident Evil Requiem's DLC, the two briefly talked about Ada Wong and her absence in the game. The interviewer mentioned that as a long-time fan of the series, they expected Ada to show up at some point, yet it didn't happen.

Nakanishi explained that "various character names" came up while they were developing the game, but that while bringing the story to life, there "weren't any scenes where it was necessary" for Ada to appear. Further, Kumazawa added that "we did talk about wanting to include that character, but we were so satisfied with how Leon and Grace's story turned out" that they ultimately left Ada out. In addition to impacting the narrative, it's likely the developers only wanted two characters to be playable.

This is a list of games where Ada Wong appears, noting that it doesn't include crossovers or mobile titles:

  • Resident Evil 2
  • Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Resident Evil The Umbrella Chronicles
  • Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles
  • Resident Evil 6
  • Resident Evil Re:Verse

Unfortunately, the developers didn't add anything further about Ada, like whether she will be involved in Resident Evil Requiem's story DLC. Given that she's a fan favorite, that may very well end up being the case, but even if she doesn't make an appearance there, it's highly unlikely that the character won't be seen ever again. As it stands, she's far from the only character who had an important experience in Raccoon City that's been left out of Requiem. Leon's former co-star Claire Redfield also isn't in the game, nor are Jill Valentine or Carlos Oliveira from Resident Evil 3. And while Sherry is present in the game's story, she doesn't physically appear in Raccoon City, allowing the story to focus more on Leon and Grace.

It's likely that fans' expectation that Ada would appear is partially because of how the writers kept things under wraps in the lead-up to the game's release. Although plenty of rumors indicated that Leon would be in Resident Evil Requiem, so-called leaks were shot down by the development team, and no official confirmation was given that he would be in the title at all up until The Game Awards, when he was officially revealed in a trailer. For now, players will have to wait and see when Ada's next appearance will be, but the team undoubtedly knows that fans are waiting for her return.
