[UPDATE: THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED APRIL 1. HAPPY APRIL FOOLS' DAY!]

While Resident Evil Requiem players may still be making their way through repeated playthroughs of the game, they should start preparing for new content coming in September 2026. GameRant can exclusively confirm the first details for Resident Evil Requiem: Last Days, the first major story DLC featuring Ada Wong and Alyssa Ashcroft, alongside the game's Mercenaries multiplayer mode. The latter is doing something never seen before in the franchise, much less the industry, at least according to Capcom.

Future Resident Evil Requiem updates may set the stage for September, though anything ahead of them would be officially unrelated to the DLC content. Sources suggest a new mini-game will arrive ahead of September, as well as a new photo mode addition to make zombies look slightly more like overcooked tofu. Regardless, Capcom sources have confirmed that Last Days and the new Mercenaries mode will drop in September and also serve as the next “major update” to the franchise.

Resident Evil Requiem's DLC Details: Story and Mercenaries

Last Days takes place a few weeks after Resident Evil Requiem, and it retains the dynamic gameplay of Grace and Leon. In this Resident Evil Requiem DLC, Leon has decided to retire from the Division of Security Operations (DSO) but accepts one last job, which sees him stepping foot back into Raccoon City for the very last time. This turns out to be a trap involving The Connections, who have targeted his home and his thus far unseen and unrevealed wife: Patricia. He turns to his reliable partner in crime, Ada Wong, as he attempts to save Patricia and uncover the connections between The Connections. Meanwhile, Grace has discovered a journal left behind by her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft, that has connections to The Connections. As players explore the present danger with Leon and Grace, they'll also explore the past via Alyssa and a surprise playable character, Zeno.

Alongside this story DLC comes the release of Resident Evil Requiem's Mercenaries Mode, which fans know as the survival wave shooter it has evolved into over the years. According to Capcom sources, Resident Evil Requiem's Mercenaries Mode will be the "logical evolution" of such a mode. It will no longer be attached to the base game and will launch as a free-to-play extraction shooter with merc-like features. Players can take control of Leon, Gideon, Zeno, Mr. X, and several others while fighting waves of enemies—and attempting to escape before being targeted by Merclist, a real-time bounty website that posts threats against griefers, throwers, and, in some cases, people who just happened to sneeze loudly during gameplay. Official support for Merclist is confirmed, though exactly how this intersects with in-game morality or tax law remains unclear.

Beyond that, the story DLC will feature a mini-game that will give players a chance to change Leon's fate, as foreboding as that sounds. Apparently, there will be a chance to replace Patricia with any beloved Resident Evil character, such as Ada Wong, Claire Redfield, Ashley Graham, Helena Harper, Chris Redfield, or Mr. X (just to name a few), as players attempt to romance Leon away from his dear wifey Patricia. It's implied that something is off or wrong with Patricia, leading to some fan theories that she's a Mold entity like Ethan Winters.

Finally, I asked my Capcom source (who was hunkered down behind some debris as we openly discussed plans for Resident Evil) about Chris Redfield and if he was getting any story content. He said "mission accomplished" and disappeared, ensuring Chris Redfield remains missing. Do with that what you will.
