“Do not go quietly into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
Unfortunately, I have to disagree with your analysis. Bungie with proper direction was a great studio, but clearly they haven't had that for a long time. They began development of Marathon in 2019, which was a pivotal time in Destiny 2's lifecycle, with concerns over the massive grind they had implemented in the game with Forsaken, the worst Day One Raid launch (Last Wish) at the end of 2018, and content vaulting that began in 2020. This was probably a strategic move on the part of Bungie leadership to improve the studio valuation as part of a sale so they could cash out. As far as I'm aware the exact payouts of the 3.6 billion dollar acquisition were never disclosed, but Pete Parsons (former CEO) was named as the primary beneficiary. So let’s not overcomplicate the events: Bungie took resources away from Destiny and started developing Marathon to complete a record sale (1 Game, 1 in Development, 3.6 Billion Dollars) and took 7 years to deliver a game that typically should should have a 4 year development cycle.
Whenever the end finally comes and the Servers are spun down, we’ll be here. We’ll still be hoping for another journey, for one last adventure. As a Spartan that grew up with Halo Combat Evolved, I started my Destiny journey 12 years ago with mixed emotions. But 12 years in, I have no misgivings. As a Guardian, Young Wolf, Lightbearer, and a Seraph, I’ll be here until the Ghost announces “Guardian down” and I am “forever lost in the dark corners of time.”
Until then, see you starside Guardians.
