Early upgrades in Pragmata shape how you players handle combat and hacking from the get-go. With Diana’s hacking abilities tied directly into fights and resources being limited early on, picking the right upgrades can make encounters far more manageable instead of overwhelming. If you want a smoother start and fewer early-game setbacks, here are the best upgrades to prioritize in Pragmata and why they matter right away.

Best Early Upgrades for the Unit Printer in Pragmata
The Unit Printer terminal at the Shelter handles most of your equipment and ability-based upgrades in Pragmata. You'll need to invest Lunafilament and Pure Lunum to get upgrades in the Unit Printer, which can be acquired by exploring various levels and defeating enemies in the game. With that said, here are the best early upgrades for the Unit Printer you should focus on unlocking first in Pragmata.
More upgrades will show up as you upgrade your shelter in Pragmata.

Unit Type |
Upgrade |
Reason to Upgrade Early |
|---|---|---|
|
Weapons |
Shockwave Gun |
It's a shotgun-type weapon that will allow Hugh to dish out massive amounts of damage to enemies at close range. Focus on investing in at least the first two upgrades for it to unlock the weapon in loadout selection and increase its base damage. |
|
Charge Piercer |
Charge Piercer is an energy rifle that can take down most of the flying drones and bots in one shot from afar. At least purchase one upgrade for it to unlock it in the equipment selection. |
|
|
Riot Blaster |
If you're cornered in a room full of enemies, Riot Blaster will help you push back enemies and temporarily stun them with its AOE blast. It's a crucial weapon that Hugh must have in his arsenal, especially when completing Red Zones. |

Hacking |
Multi-Hack |
The combination of Confuse and Multi-Hack will turn your enemies against each other. This is a deadly combination, and these hacking nodes should be upgraded as early as possible to make combat encounters a breeze. |

Abilities |
Fast Moves |
Fast Moves is a perfect dodge that's extremely useful when you're engaged in close-quarters combat. Make sure to purchase this ability from the Unit Printer in Pragmata as early as possible, so Hugh can quickly dodge out of the way of attacks and slow down time to land multiple shots on enemy weakpoints. |

Repair-Up |
Increases the amount of HP that's restored by using a repair cartridge. Since healing items are few and far between, purchasing Repair-Up upgrades will maximize healing received from a single cartridge use. |
|
Thrusters |
Thrusters don't just let Hugh hover in the air, but also let him perform dodges both on the ground and midair. Upgrade Thrusters early in Pragmata won't only improve your traversal skills across levels, but also give Hugh an edge while dodging attacks in combat. |
|
|
Mod Slots |
Mods add different buffs to Hugh, and players will only be able to use one at the start. However, upgrading mod slots early on will allow you to use multiple mods, making Hugh a lot more powerful early on in Pragmata. |
There's also a Firmware Updater tab in Shelter that lets players invest Upgrade Components to improve defensive stats, damage, and hacking efficiency for Hugh and Diana. While it's entirely up to players which stats they want to prioritize based on their build, my recommendation is to balance all stats by investing an equal number of points into each one (if you want a more balanced experience with Pragmata).
