For over three decades, Power Rangers has treated fans to some of the most colorful and memorable battles, from one-on-one duels between Rangers to massive Megazord fights. Across dozens of seasons, fans have debated which Ranger is the strongest, which team is the best, and which fight scene stands above the rest. One name inevitably appears in these conversations: Tommy Oliver.
Portrayed by the late Jason David Frank, Tommy became the face of the franchise after debuting as the Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers before donning different colored suits throughout the series. Tommy's legacy is impossible to overstate. He's often considered the strongest Ranger in franchise history and remains one of the most popular characters. However, while Tommy may have the claim to the 'strongest Ranger' title, Power Rangers' best fight scene needs more than just him to overpower the episode's enemies.
Power Rangers: All of Tommy Oliver’s Ranger Forms, Ranked
Many Power Rangers fans consider Tommy Oliver the greatest ranger of all time. He has taken many forms throughout the series, each completely unique.
Tommy Oliver is An Iconic Part of Power Rangers
But His Best Fight Scene Came in a Teamup
Unlike most Rangers, Tommy served on multiple teams and wielded a number of powers throughout the show. Fans watched him evolve from the Green Ranger to the White Ranger, Zeo Ranger V Red, the Red Turbo Ranger, and eventually the Black Dino Ranger. Along the way, he defeated countless enemies, led multiple teams, and repeatedly proved himself capable of matching some of the franchise's most dangerous villains. His experience alone places him in a category few other Rangers can be, while his various power sets have made him one of the most versatile heroes in Power Rangers.
Despite this, the franchise's most celebrated action sequence wasn't one Tommy fought alone. Instead, that honor belongs to "Forever Red," the tenth-anniversary special from Power Rangers Wild Force. The episode united 10 different Red Rangers from various eras, bringing together fan-favorite heroes such as Jason Lee Scott, Tommy Oliver, Andros, Leo Corbett, Carter Grayson, and Wes Collins. In the Power Rangers Wild Force episode, the Machine Empire returns and attempts to recover Serpentera, Lord Zodd's legendary weapon from Mighty Morphin. The episode culminates in an assault on the Machine Empire's lunar base, where the Rangers work together to destroy Serpentera before it can threaten Earth again. For longtime fans, watching almost a decade of Red Rangers team-up was a dream come true.
10 Strongest Power Rangers Villains of All Time, Ranked
The Power Rangers have fought plenty of dangerous enemies during their tenure, but some have been far stronger than others.
"Forever Red" is Better Than Any of Tommy Oliver's Solo Fights
The Red Ranger Team-Up is Incredibly Impressive
Instead of celebrating one Ranger, "Forever Red" celebrates the entire Power Rangers franchise, and it's far better than any of Tommy Oliver's solo fights because it's much bigger in scale. Tommy's most famous battles are largely built around his personal journey. "Green With Evil" establishes him as a formidable rival, while his White Ranger debut positions him as a savior who's capable of turning the tide against Rita Repulsa's forces. They're exciting moments, sure, but they are fundamentally character-focused. The only emotional payoff audiences get comes from his redemption, his growth, or his power.
"Forever Red" delivers something Tommy's solo stories can't. Every Red Ranger arrives carrying the history of their own season, fanbase, and team, and watching Jason and Tommy fight alongside Andros, Leo, Carter, and the others creates a feeling no other battle can quite match. With Jason accepting a default leadership position, Tommy operating as a seasoned veteran, and Rangers like Carter bringing their serious side to the fight, "Forever Red" feels more like a genuine team-up than a collection of cameos. The Rangers charge into battle together, combine their strengths, and bounce off each other all episode. Tommy's solo fights, on the other hand, only see him trading blows with a villain. "Forever Red"'s team-up gives everyone a moment to shine in an electric and high-energy fight.
The Rangers trade jokes and challenge each other, but they also fall into a believable rhythm, which makes "Forever Red" feel much more cohesive than viewers might've initially expected. As the Red Rangers all launch a coordinated attack against one of Power Rangers' most dangerous and recognizable threats, the sheer scale, teamwork, and sense of celebration make it far more compelling than any of Tommy Oliver's solo fights.
