If you've gone one step further and tried to interact with the green gates, you'll be told that you can't pass through until you've increased your Trainer Rank in Pokopia. While the game is very good at teaching you about the various progression systems, Trainer Rank is kept somewhat quiet, and that's got fans wondering what they need to do so they can explore the wider world of Pokopia.

How to Increase Trainer Rank in Pokopia

The only way to increase Trainer Rank is to progress through the main questline by completing Important Requests as they come up. These can be given to you by Tangrowth and the other Pokemon you come across as you continue to create new biomes to attract them.

For example, one of the important requests in the Withered Wastelands that leads to you increasing your Trainer Rank is 'Yawning Up a Storm.' Each of these important requests you get plays into the storyline of that area, and completing them more or less marks the end of the major things you need to do to help revitalize it.

It's impossible not to increase your Trainer Rank if you continue to work your way through the game, so don't worry too much. After completing enough of these requests in an area, the game alerts you that you've increased your Trainer Rank and will then encourage you to go check out those green gates.

How Many Trainer Ranks Are There in Pokemon Pokopia?

There are four Trainer Ranks to attain in Pokopia, but it's important not to see this as a system that you can quickly progress through or grind to unlock more items or features in the game. See them more as a general progression marker, with the first three indicating you've unlocked new areas, and the final one indicating that you've more or less finished the main storyline of the game.

Just because you've finished the main game, it doesn't mean the fun has to come to an end. You can help other friends out in their games thanks to the online multiplayer, or you can set up a Cloud Island so you've got a creative place to hang out in.

What Else Does Trainer Rank Do?

The Trainer Rank doesn't actually do anything else other than open up these new areas. However, these areas bring with them a fresh set of Pokemon to find, habitats to make, and items to collect and use to keep your ever-growing collection of Pokemon happy and comfortable.
