Pokemon GO announces its next season, Forever Forward, with some new details about what players can expect in the next three months. While not a comprehensive picture of Forever Forward, the first details do confirm some exciting Super Mega Raids are on the way, new Dynamax Pokemon will be hitting power spots, new Pokemon will hatch from various eggs, and there are also some changes coming to Daily Discoveries.
Forever Forward kicks off on June 2, 2026 and runs until September 8, 2026. This is a big season because it includes this year’s Pokemon GO Fest. While the in-person version has already started in Tokyo, Japan, and there is still Chicago and Copenhagen versions on the way, the Global version of Pokemon GO Fest is slated for July 17 and 18. It will include the Mega Mewtwo X and Y Super Mega Raids, tons of Legendary and unique Pokemon in raids, Pokemon of every type as wild spawns, and some costumed Pokemon to boot.
Pokemon GO Fest 2026 Officially Adding Mega Mewtwo and More
After months of rumors, Niantic confirms that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y are finally coming to Pokemon GO in the very near future.
But we already knew about Pokemon GO Fest and seemingly all that it will entail. There is still the possibility (read: hope) that there will be a lead-up event similar to what we saw with GO Tour Kanto earlier this year, but Niantic has yet to confirm anything surrounding GO Fest yet. Just what the core gameplay activities will be, and that the Pokemon GO Fest event will be free to all players.
These are still the earliest details, but here is what we know.
Super Mega Raids for Forever Forward Season
The Super Mega Raids for the season will feature Mega Skarmory and Mega Raichu X and Y. We already knew that Mega Skarmory was likely coming after a leak, but this is the first confirmation that Mega Raichu X and Y are releasing as well. Niantic had previously confirmed to GameRant that all future Mega Raid days will feature Super Mega Raids, so it’s safe to assume that will be the case here.
As far as Meta relevance, Mega Skarmory doesn’t have much to offer, but Mega Raichu is going to be one to target on its Raid Day. Mega Raichu Y, in particular, will be the version to focus on, as it will be the best electric-type attacker in Pokemon GO when it releases. This puts it ahead of Shadow Raikou as the best overall electric-type attacker and Mega Manectric as the best electric-type Mega.
Mega Mewtwo Y is not a bad electric-type attacker either, but it is most potent as a psychic-type attacker. However, those insane stats for Mega Mewtwo Y and X make it an excellent choice for almost every move-type it can use.
New Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO
Forever Forward will also introduce some new Dynamax Pokemon during Max Mondays. These are:
- Dynamax Electabuzz
- Dynamax Magikarp
- Dynamax Feebas
Unless Pokemon GO has some restriction, this also means Dynamax Gyarados, Electivire, and Milotic will be available in the game. Niantic also says that there will be more on the way, but is only revealing these now. Presumably, there will be at least one Gigantamax Max Battle Day during Forever Forward, but those usually get their own separate announcement.
Pokemon GO Makes Daily Discovery Changes
Last season saw the introduction of Daily Discoveries, which are special events or bonuses that activate during each day of the week. The two key changes are that Catch-Up Sunday is turning into Scenic Sunday with a focus on routes and Showcase Tuesday is expanding.
How Does Scenic Sunday Work
During Scenic Sunday, more Pokemon will spawn while following a route, and incense will attract even more Pokemon as well. You will earn Buddy candy progress faster while following a route. And you can encounter Mateo three times per day from routes to exchange gifts with him.
Showcase Tuesday Changes
Pokemon GO already expanded the number of Pokestops that are eligible for Showcases this past week, and for this upcoming season, players will be able to enter up to 2 more Showcases each Tuesday for a total of 5 now. There is no word on any changes to the Showcase format as far as new/returning categories, but the increase is a step in the right direction.
The main criticism around Showcase Tuesday is that they focus on specific types without much in the way of variety. You always see the same Pokemon winning showcases, like Origin Palkia for Water-Type or Weezing for Poison. I’d love to see Niantic revisit Showcase Tuesday at some point during the season, at the very least expanding the categories. Increasing the Pokestops that feature Showcases and allowing players to enter more Showcases are signs that Niantic is listening, though.

Speaking of Community Day, Pokemon GO confirmed the dates for next season’s versions: June 20, July 4, and August 15. We don’t yet know what Pokemon will be featured during those three Community Days, but Pokemon GO has teased the June 20th this weekend.
This is Just the Beginning for Forever Forward
Beyond those major highlights, Forever Forward will also make some smaller, but much-appreciated changes for Pokemon GO next season. There will be new Pokemon hatching from various Eggs, new cups for the GO Battle League, and some new web store deals. We can also see Gimmighoul on the promo art, so there's a strong possibility that the shiny version of the Pokemon might factor into a seasonal event. Pikachu also makes an appearance, but without a costume so who knows what that could mean.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg as Forever Forward looks to be a significant season for Pokemon GO. While the game has been celebrating its 10th anniversary throughout the year with events like GO Tour Kanto and All-Out, GO Fest is the pinnacle annual event, and Niantic has put together a banger.
But I’m most intrigued by what they’ve yet to announce, like the lead-up event to GO Fest or any other surprises that might be on the way. Heck, GO Fest proper hasn’t started yet, so there might be surprises for that, like the Mega Dragonite drop at GO Tour.
