Pokemon Officially Had Its Best Year Ever and it’s not even close

The Pokemon Company has reported its earnings for the fiscal year ending in February 2026, and it's the best year the franchise has ever had. The strength of Pokemon as a brand largely lies in the fact that there's a variety of experiences that cater to fans of all ages. Between Switch games, the TCG, mobile options, LEGO, and the anime, there are many different options, and these have helped the franchise thrive for the last three decades.

So far, things seem to be off to a strong start for The Pokemon Company in 2026. Following the fiscal year's conclusion, Pokemon Pokopia was released for Nintendo Switch 2. The game has sold more than 4 million copies, while receiving universally positive reviews. A Nintendo Switch 2 bundle with Pokopia is now available, and that could result in a lot more copies being sold over the coming months.

A Big Year for The Pokemon Company

In the fiscal year ending in February 2026, The Pokemon Company reported revenue of $3.33 billion, with a net profit of $752 million. Those numbers have been attributed largely to the success of two games: Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Pokemon TCG Pocket. Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a best-seller on Switch 2, but the game was also released on the original Switch. Between the two platforms, the game has clearly sold a lot of copies, helping The Pokemon Company's net profits increase by 70% over the previous year.

Pokemon TCG Pocket has also seen huge success, with more than 200 million downloads across mobile platforms. The game launched late in 2024, so it makes sense that a lot of Pokemon TCG Pocket's profitability might have come in the fiscal year ending in February 2026. It's a good early sign, but it remains to be seen whether the mobile game will have the same longevity as Pokemon GO, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

While the previous fiscal year was a huge success for The Pokemon Company, it remains to be seen whether it can set another record. Pokopia is off to a very strong start, but it doesn't seem like 2026 will have any other big releases. There are new card expansions and LEGO sets on the way, but Pokemon Winds and Waves aren't coming out until 2027. The absence of new software could lead to a quieter year, unless The Pokemon Company has something new to reveal.
