Sony has unveiled the official PlayStation 5 Gaming Monitor, which is a 27-inch 1440p IPS display that includes high refresh rate options, HDMI and DisplayPort connectivity, and a unique DualSense charger. Pre-orders of the PS5 Gaming Monitor will soon be available, though quantities will be limited.

The PS5 Gaming Monitor was revealed during a busy week for PlayStation. As of this writing, the week was highlighted by the June 2 State of Play broadcast, which saw trailers for upcoming PS5 titles like Marvel's Wolverine, Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls, and Phantom Blade Zero. The episode was capped off by the first glimpses of Santa Monica Studio's next project, God of War Laufey. Although the PS5 Gaming Monitor was not shown off during the State of Play, Sony revealed some key details about the upcoming display for prospective buyers to bear in mind.

A new PlayStation 5 console exclusive that is also on its way to PC suffers a minor delay that pushes its release closer to GTA 6.

The PS5 Gaming Monitor Has Plenty of Options for Users To Play With

The PS5 27-inch Gaming Monitor will be priced at $350, putting it in direct competition with displays like the Dell Alienware AW2726DM monitor. The upcoming PS5 monitor will include an IPS display with support for variable refresh rate (VRR) via HDMI, up to 240 Hz refresh rates on compatible devices, auto HDR tone mapping, and multiple connectivity options. The PS5 Gaming Monitor will include two HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, four USB ports with transfer speeds up to 5Gbps, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Users can connect a PlayStation Link wireless adapter to one of the USB ports to enjoy low-latency connections with compatible devices. It will also include a charging hook for DualSense or DualSense Edge controllers to utilize, which can be hidden behind the display when not in use. Pre-orders for the PS5 Gaming Monitor will begin at 10AM Eastern on Friday, June 5, in limited quantities via PlayStation Direct.

The PS5 Gaming Monitor will be fully released on Thursday, August 27, on PlayStation Direct and select retailers in the US and Japan. Given that the PS5 console lineup has just one HDMI port for display connectivity, the PS5 Gaming Monitor can connect to any compatible console or PC that utilizes HDMI or DisplayPort connections. However, the PS5 only supports up to 120 Hz refresh rates, while most modern gaming PCs can support up to 240 Hz refresh rates via HDMI or DisplayPort.

Users can swap between inputs using the PS5 monitor's built-in navigation joystick, located on the back of the monitor above the power button. While it comes with a stand, the PS5 Gaming Monitor can also be mounted on a VESA-compatible monitor arm. Though it does not have an OLED display, the PS5 monitor's in-plane switching (IPS) display offers excellent viewing at multiple angles. In short, users looking for a good gaming monitor in the $350 price range may find the PS5 Gaming Monitor worth considering.
