What Does the Watch Do in Phasmophobia?

The watch in Phasmophobia is a built-in tool added with the Player Character Update. It helps you track your sanity, monitor time spent in a contract, and see when your microphone is being detected. You do not need to equip it manually because every player automatically has it during investigations.

To use the watch, either open your Journal to glance at your wrist or hold Use button while your left hand is empty. The watch becomes especially useful once you leave the truck, since it is the only way to keep an eye on your sanity without returning to the monitor. It’s a cool gadget to have in Phasmophobia.

What the Watch Does in Phasmophobia

The player watch has three important functions that can help during ghost hunts in Phasmophobia.

Monitor Sanity Levels

The most useful feature is the sanity tracker. Around the edge of the watch, you will notice a circular meter that slowly decreases as your sanity drops. This gives you a quick way to judge how dangerous the investigation is becoming without walking back to the truck.

Keep Track of Time

Second, the center of the watch displays a timer showing how long you have been inside the current contract. This is especially useful during setup time because you can easily tell when the safe preparation period has ended and ghost activity can become more aggressive.

Microphone Detection

Near the bottom of the watch, there is also a microphone icon. Whenever your microphone is actively being detected by the game, the icon changes from a grey color to solid white.

Remember, the watch does not count as electronic equipment, so ghosts will not react to it during hunts.

How to View and Use the Watch in Phasmophobia

There are two different ways to check the watch while playing. The easiest method is opening your Journal. Since your character usually holds an item like a flashlight in the left hand, opening the Journal temporarily frees both hands and lets you clearly see the watch on your wrist.

The second method works only when your left hand is empty. In that situation, you can hold the Use button to raise your wrist and inspect the watch directly. The exact button depends on your control settings, so you can check or rebind it in the Controls menu if needed.

VR players have a slightly easier experience because the watch is always visible on their wrist. They only need to raise their left hand to see it.
