The Runes of Aldur league in Path of Exile 2 introduced runecrafting as its main mechanic, which allows players to make not just socketable Runes, but also equipment, currencies, and a bunch of other stuff as well. Players will unlock decent number of Rune recipes as they play through the campaign, but to get more of them, you'll have to explore the ocean beyond Kingsmarch during the endgame phase of PoE 2. Unlocking Rune recipes will take a while, so strap in, and prepare for a long grind.

Path of Exile 2’s in-game trade market system is tied to an NPC named Ange, who can only be found in a very specific location in the game.

How to Unlock More Rune Recipes in PoE 2

  1. Complete the campaign
  2. Go to the Ruins of Kingsmarch to the southeast of the Atlas map
  3. Find an Expedition Ocean map
  4. Look for and enter an underground dungeon somewhere on the map

First, make sure that you've completed all the Runeseeker quest steps during the PoE 2 campaign. You should have visited at least one ancient Kalguuran vault per Act. If you're sure you did all of them, keep going until you reach the endgame.

Once the Atlas map becomes available, you'll then want to make your way to the Ruins of Kingsmarch, which should be somewhere to the southeast of the starting point. Finish maps until you reach Kingsmarch, then head inside the city. You'll find some familiar NPCs there, and talking to them will start the Grand Expedition endgame questline.

Starting the Grand Expedition questline will unlock access to the Ocean (and Ocean-adjacent) biome maps further to the southeast of Kingsmarch. Pop a Waystone into any of these maps, and you may find yourself inside an Expedition map, where all you have to do is place bombs on top of potential loot sources (these might drop gear and/or various PoE 2 currencies). In these maps, you have a chance to find an underground dungeon entrance that's been blocked by some rubble. Make sure to plan your bomb route over that entrance.

Look for a bright white icon on your map to find these dungeon entrances.

Once you've used up all your bombs, blow them up using the Detonator, then enter the dungeon entrance. Fight your way through, and if you're lucky, you should find a Runic Knowledge chest at the end. Interact with that to unlock new Rune recipes in PoE 2.

Now, there are some things you'll need to keep in mind when looking for Rune recipes:

  1. Not all Ocean maps are Expedition maps
  2. Not all Expedition maps have underground dungeon entrances
  3. Not all dungeon entrances have Runic Knowledge chests

So yeah, there's a lot of RNG involved when it comes to unlocking Rune recipes in PoE 2. Keep playing, and you'll eventually unlock the recipes you need for crafting. Oddly enough, I got the Divine Orb recipe without discovering any currency-related recipes during the endgame, though there might have been something that I overlooked while playing through the game on my first character.

Some of the Ocean biome maps have a minimum Waystone tier requirement, so you may want to grind other maps and level your character up first before committing to the Expeditions side of the Atlas. If you've only just begun the PoE 2 endgame, I recommend completing Fortress maps first so you can get Atlas Skill Tree passive points.
