The Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit class of One Piece has always been full of incredibly exciting abilities, arguably even more intriguing than the Logia class. In the Wano Country Arc, Oda revealed the existence of Mythical Zoan Gods, and in Elbaf, he has now added to it with the incredible power of the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhogg. As the name suggests, this is a very powerful dragon-type Devil Fruit that allows the user to transform into the Nidhogg from Norse mythology. This One Piece Devil Fruit was eaten by none other than the Accursed Prince of Elbaf, Loki. It possesses tremendous firepower, and it is easily one of the strongest Devil Fruits in the entire series, especially when wielded by someone with ancient giant blood, like Loki.

Loki's Nidhogg Devil Fruit Is A Mythical Zoan Dragon Type

Loki Nidhogg Devil Fruit Mythical Zoan Dragon one piece

The Ryu Ryu no Mi is a very exciting class of Devil Fruits in One Piece, and so far Oda has revealed two in this category, both of them belonging to the Mythical Zoan class. The first is the model Kirin, which is wielded by Saint Killingham of the Holy Knights. The second is model Nidhogg, which is wielded by none other than Prince Loki. Loki having the power of the Nidhogg Devil Fruit became apparent the moment he stated that he could simply fly back to the Sun World. Shortly after, in One Piece Chapter 1174, Oda unleashed the full transformation of Loki, and fans got to see him completely engulfing Elbaf with his ginormous size.

In One Piece Chapter 1175, Oda added to the lore of the Nidhogg Dragon. It is stated that whoever eats the legendary Devil Fruit of Elbaf gets the ability to turn into the Nidhogg, which is an extremely powerful dragon especially known for its size. However, the true power of the Nidhogg Dragon can only be brought out when someone with Ancient Giant lineage eats it. Given that Ancient Giants are much larger than regular Giants, if they go on to wield the ability of the Nidhogg Fruit, they can grow into an even larger dragon. As such, the size of the Nidhogg is directly proportional to the size of the person consuming it, and that is why Oda has purposefully been making Loki as big as he is.

The Nidhogg Devil Fruit Grants Immense Durability And Resilience

Given that the Nidhogg is a massive western dragon, it goes without saying that it has incredible durability and resilience. This durability is compounded by the fact that Loki has incredible Giant durability as well. In fact, Loki's durability might just be the very best in the entire series, surpassing that of even Kaido. Loki was thrown from the Sun realm of Elbaf into the Underworld immediately after he was born. As a newborn baby, he survived this fall and only had a few bruises on him. This shows that his durability is on a completely different level when compared to the others. Now that he has the power of the Nidhogg Devil Fruit, this durability is compounded even further, and he might just be the most durable character in the entire world of One Piece by now.

On an exceedingly rare day when lightning and snow combine, a vast beast will blanket the sky with its presence. And with the sound of the drums of liberation, the Sun God shall appear. — Jarul, One Piece chapter 1174

The Powers And Transformations of The Niddhogg Mythical Zoan

Loki's sheer size also grants him tremendous strength and speed. The Nidhogg is an extremely fast dragon, but more than that, it packs quite a punch. Its strength can easily shatter mountains and destroy the entire terrain, and that makes it truly dangerous. As is the case with all, the Nidhogg Devil Fruit grants Loki two specific transformations:

  • His full form, in which he transforms into a whole dragon.
  • The hybrid form, which allows him to utilize the power of Nidhogg in a hybrid human body, making him far more mobile.

The Nidhogg Grants Lightning Manipulation As A Special Power

As is the case with all Devil Fruits that belong to the Mythical class, the Nidhogg also grants a special power to the user, and this power is the manipulation of lightning. Whenever Loki takes the form of the Nidhogg and flies through the skies, lightning starts pouring down and the clouds start rumbling. This goes to show immense control over lightning on a scale that rivals even the Goro of Goro no Mi.

  • Loki can also infuse his lightning powers in his weapon, such as Ragnir, and bring down lightning bolts from the sky. Using lightning, he can create fires. In essence, with the power of the Nidhogg Devil Fruit, Loki can control both fire and lightning at the same time, which are coincidentally the two biggest weaknesses of Elbaf. When Loki killed King Harald, he made use of this lightning once again by infusing it into his hammer. This lightning strike was so powerful that it overcame Harald's immortality and ended up killing him in a single blow. This shows the ferocious power of his lightning strikes.

More than that, in One Piece chapter 1175, Loki used his lightning-style attacks to completely destroy all of the MMAs created by killing him, which once again goes to show tremendous firepower.

The Nidhogg Is The Power Of The God Of War

The Nidhogg Devil Fruit is quite easily one of the strongest that Oda has introduced in One Piece. Given that this fruit directly correlates to the God of War of Elbaf, it is essentially in the same class as the Nika Devil Fruit, making it a God fruit. The Nidhogg is always accompanied by the Ratatoskr as well, which is an ice squirrel, and currently, this ice squirrel resides within Ragnir. As such, Loki's version of Nidhogg also has ice manipulation power through his beloved pet hammer.

This is the judgment of the God of War. Divine protection was just not with me. — Dorry, One Piece Chapter 119

All things put together, Loki's power of the Nidhogg fruit is more than enough to destroy not just Elbaf, but the whole world. The sheer size and the ability to rain down lightning on just about any island make it so strong that he can destroy countries by merely flying over them. What's even more exciting is that Loki has not even awakened his Devil Fruit yet. This means that he must have one more transformation to unlock after Awakening, which will boost his powers to an even greater level. As that happens, Loki will truly become unstoppable and might just be labeled as the strongest in the world.

It is not an exaggeration when the people of Elbaf say that Loki can destroy the world, and one can see why. As things stand, Loki might just be the second strongest character in Elbaf after Imu. It is truly mind-boggling as to how Shanks was able to compete with him and defeat him in battle.
