11 years ago, on August 3, 2015, in One Piece Chapter 795, Eiichiro Oda officially introduced the strongest creature to exist in the world of One Piece. This character was none other than the King of Beasts, Kaido, who fell from a Sky Island named Balloon Terminal and landed in front of the trio of Eustass Kid, Scratchmen Apoo, and Basil Hawkins. Kaido made his official introduction as one of the Four Emperors of the Sea and an unbeatable monster who was tipped to win any one-on-one battle he took part in. As the strongest creature in the world, he was a monstrosity to deal with, and Luffy's battle against him in the Wano Country Arc showcased why he was given this title in the first place. Evidently, Kaido was an incredibly powerful fighter.
Now, 11 years later, in One Piece’s Elbaf Arc, Eiichiro Oda has officially replaced him with a new individual who is more than worthy of holding the title of ‘The Strongest Creature.’ This person is none other than Loki, who holds the power of Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr, as officially revealed in One Piece Chapter 1175 on March 2, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14.
One Piece's Kaido Has Officially Been Overshadowed By Loki's Nidhoggr Ability As The New Strongest Creature
One Piece Chapter 795 introduced Kaido as the World's Strongest Creature, but it wasn't until many years later in the Wano arc that his abilities were officially introduced. One Piece Chapter 921, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #57 on October 22, 2018, debuted the earth-shattering power of Yonko Kaido and unveiled him as a dragon.
Kaido was revealed to have eaten the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu in One Piece Chapter 999, which he stole from Big Mom on God Valley 38 years ago. In the years following the God Valley incident, Kaido slowly built his strength up and started the Beast Pirates, and in time his strength was considered to be untouchable. Kaido was also labeled the official strongest creature in the entire world, and this was largely down to the nature of his Devil Fruit.

Kaido's Seiryu Devil Fruit allowed him to transform into a giant blue eastern dragon with impenetrable skin. In fact, only attacks coated in the Color of the Supreme King were strong enough to pierce through his defenses. Furthermore, Kaido's Devil Fruit also granted him the ability to manipulate three elements, those being fire, wind, and lightning. Out of these elements, his control over fire was the strongest, with his Flaming Drum Dragon, which debuted officially in One Piece Chapter 1048 on May 9, 2022, being the pinnacle of it.
Despite the immense powers that Kaido carried, One Piece Chapter 1175 has officially dethroned him as the strongest creature in the world by introducing none other than the Nidhoggr, which is a legendary dragon that exists in the midst of Elbaf. The Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr is a legendary Devil Fruit that was previously eaten by the God of War of Elbaf, presumably named Douzan.

This particular War God was so strong that he could rival the Sun God Nika long ago and even hold his own against the likes of Nerona Imu in combat. His strength was practically unmatched at the time, but under unforeseen and mysterious circumstances, he did end up dying. Now, centuries later, Loki holds the same power, becoming the second coming of the God of War of Elbaf and wielding the ability of the giant black lightning dragon called Nidhoggr.

Loki's Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr Makes Him Stronger Than Kaido
Loki's Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Nidhoggr is incredibly strong, and it has already been showcased to be stronger than Kaido's Uo Uo no Mi, Model, Seiryu. For one, Loki's Devil Fruit was said to hold the potential to destroy the entire world in One Piece Chapters 1130 and 1136, which makes it extremely special as far as abilities go. A glimpse of this power was showcased in the Climax of the Elbaf, starting in Chapter 1175, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14 on March 2, 2026. This chapter showcased a casual attack from Loki, called Thorheim, being strong enough to blow up an entire village in Elbaf. Considering the size of Elbaf, this blast was strong enough to destroy an entire small country with ease, making it a monstrously powerful attack.
Furthermore, Loki's Devil Fruit is shown to have tremendous toughness, such that he could tank multiple attacks from Nerona Imu's Akuma no Mi abilities, such as the Sword of Judgment: Nemesis. Even powerful attacks charged with Conqueror's Haki could easily be tanked by Loki, making him one of the most unique Devil Fruit users in the story.

With the Nidhoggr's lightning capabilities already being strong enough to surpass the likes of Seiryu and his defensive capabilities being comparable to those of Kaido, if not even greater, it can be said that this Devil Fruit offers powers on a far greater scale. The fact that it is a God ability with the potential to destroy the entire world with its lightning-based attacks further solidifies its position at the very top.

One Piece's Final Saga Will Continue To Reveal Stronger Characters Than Kaido
Kaido existed as one of the strongest Devil Fruit users in One Piece, and at one point, he more than deservedly held the title of the strongest creature in the world; however, the story has moved forward significantly, and the vast majority of the characters are now on a completely different level of strength. For instance, Kaido and Big Mom failed to deal any sort of deadly damage to the likes of the Worst Generation when they fought together, starting chapter 1000 all the way to chapter 1010. Meanwhile, Shanks, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea, took down two members in a casual attack that wasn't even his strongest in One Piece chapter 1079, released on March 27, 2023, in WSJ Issue #17.

Similarly, Loki's Nidhoggr ability is far greater than that of Kaido, despite the former Yonko holding the title of the strongest creature in the world. The implication here is that the Final Saga is going to introduce Devil Fruit abilities on a completely different scale that will dwarf even the likes of Kaido and Big Mom, and this is an exciting possibility that we can't wait to see unfold.
