The One Piece manga is the best selling comicbook in the whole world, with over 600 million copies in circulation at the moment. This amount of success wouldn’t have been possible without Eiichiro Oda’s dedication and sacrifice for almost 3 decades now. With that being said, maintaining a consistent publication in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump is getting harder for the author due to age and various other reasons, and the newest break has now officially been confirmed.
After the release of One Piece chapter 1184 last week on May 31, 2026, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue # 27, the story is going on a break again, as confirmed by Oda. One Piece Chapter 1185 will be delayed, and instead of releasing on June 7, it will now be released on June 14, 2026.
One Piece Manga Officially Announces New Break On June 7, 2026
One Piece is one of the biggest manga series that has been consistently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump over the last few decades. The series had its debut on July 19, 1997, in Issue #34 of the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, and has continued to dominate since. One Piece is still ongoing today regularly, but due to his age and the long publication, Eiichiro Oda needs to rest more often. One Piece Chapter 1184 was officially released last weekend, on May 31, 2026, bringing the month to a proper close for the series.
Sadly, with the release of the chapter came the announcement of a new break by the author, Eiichiro Oda. One Piece Chapter 1185 now faces a surprise delay, which means we won't be getting a new chapter on the upcoming weekend, on June 7, 2026, as the series will be skipping Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #28 entirely.

Eiichiro Oda's Trip To South Africa For One Piece Live Action Season 3 Is The Primary Reason For The Break
Eiichiro Oda usually takes breaks after every three chapters, so the news of the series going on a break after just two consecutive chapters came as a surprise to us all. Fans immediately wondered why Oda was taking a sudden break from the One Piece manga. At first, we assumed it was his usual break to recover from the burnout and overload that come with being a mangaka. That, however, isn’t exactly the case. While this break indeed comes from Oda himself instead of Weekly Shonen Jump, it’s for a different reason.
One Piece will be skipping Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #28 on June 7, 2026, because of a major project that Oda has involved himself with — The One Piece Live Action by Netflix. Eiichiro Oda was recently seen in a video posted by Netflix, joining the One Piece Live Action cast in South Africa. He was seen interacting with the cast, notably Iñaki Godoy, the actor of Luffy.
This visit is especially important for Oda as the cast is currently working on the third season of the show following great success from the first two seasons. His presence there is essential for publicity. Given the time it takes to travel, as well as the time spent there, it’s clear why Oda had to take a break and couldn’t focus on the manga.

One Piece Chapter 1185 Is Now Scheduled For Release On June 14, 2026
Many One Piece fans are often disappointed when the manga goes on break. Luckily, as with most breaks, this one isn’t too long either. While One Piece will skip Jump on June 7, the manga will return just a week after, on June 14, 2026. The return of the series will be seen in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #29. After this break, One Piece fans should be able to get 3 chapters in a row, unless unique circumstances arise. In other words, One Piece will see the release of Chapters 1185, 1186, and 1187 in succession following this new break.
The Flashback of Esperia Kingdom From 56 Years Ago Continues In One Piece 1185
The worst part about the recent One Piece break is the exciting cliffhanger Oda left the story on during the ongoing Elbaf arc climax. Just before this break, One Piece entered its second main Elbaf flashback in Chapter 1183, which was released in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump issue #26, this time covering the mysterious events of the Esperia Kingdom from 70 years ago, focusing on characters such as Brook as well as Shuri, a former Princess made Holy Knight.
The events that led to the complete destruction of the island, as well as the expansion of another Straw Hat’s backstory are not going to be easy to wait for. The plot has been captivating, and once this flashback is over, the big battle against Imu will continue on, which has all of us on the edge of our seats already. We hope for One Piece to make great progress towards exploring the deep mysteries of Shuri and the Holy Knights in the upcoming few chapters.
