On August 23rd, 2026, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #39, Eiichiro Oda and One Piece made its grand return. Over the last few weeks, One Piece has endured quite a rough time because of the frequent breaks from the author, but fans were delighted to see this manga return with a brand-new chapter, especially at a very intense moment in the Elbaf arc.
One Piece chapter 1191 gave us yet another look at the exciting battle unfolding in the Elbaf arc, as Nerona Imu went up against the likes of Luffy and his allies. Sadly, it has now officially been confirmed to us that One Piece is headed back on break immediately after the release of chapter 1191. This comes as a massive shock to the fans, since Oda just returned from break and the fact that the last few months have been laden with quite a lot of them certainly doesn't help. This is the most significant break period that One Piece has endured over the course of the last few months, and with that, chapter 1192 has officially been delayed.
One Piece Announces New Break After Chapter 1191 Release
One Piece returned with Chapter 1191 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #39 after a two-week-long break. To be clear, the break that followed Chapter 1190 was not from Eiichiro Oda. Instead, it came from Jump itself due to the celebration of the Obon Festival in Japan. Nonetheless, it was a break for the manga still, and fans expected Eiichiro Oda to go on a run following the release of Chapter 1191. Surprisingly, it was officially announced in this week's Jump that One Piece will head on a break immediately after the release of Chapter 1191, which most fans didn't expect.
Usually, Eiichiro Oda delivers three chapters in a row before heading on his own break, but this time around things are different. Immediately after returning with a chapter, Oda has headed off on a break again, and this has been a pattern over the course of the last two months. Previously, we were anticipating One Piece Chapter 1192 on August 30, 2026. Now it has been confirmed that Chapter 1191 was last released for the month of August and that the manga will officially resume its run on September 6, 2026, with Chapter 1192, which will be published in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #41.
Why Eiichiro Oda Is Taking More Breaks Than Ever Before
Fans all over the world are confused as to why there have been so many breaks for One Piece as of late. The answer to this question is quite simple but multifaceted. For one, the break that came after One Piece Chapter 1190 was not from Oda but from the magazine itself. However, that break aside, Eiichiro Oda has been taking quite a lot of breaks as of late, and that is undeniable. The reason why Oda is taking so many breaks is down to two main things. The first main reason is that Eiichiro Oda's health has taken quite a hit over the last few years. Oda suffers from multiple health-related issues and barely gets any rest over a week. Oda also spends quite a lot of time away from his family due to his responsibilities towards the manga. As such, it is not difficult to imagine that he requires a breather every now and then. It is likely that Oda is feeling the pressure more than ever before right now, which is directly contributing to the increased frequency of breaks in One Piece.
It is also important to note that over the last three years, Eiichiro Oda has often been taking long hiatuses. In 2024 and 2025, Eiichiro Oda went on a one-month-long break, but this year, he went on no such break, which further added to his exhaustion. Now, Oda is struggling to keep up with a weekly release format, and until he regains his energy, this is likely to continue. Another important factor to keep in mind is the One Piece live-action project. Currently, the live-action project is ongoing, and often, Eiichiro Oda is consulted for it. Oda also flies to South Africa frequently for the live-action, and because of that, he has to take breaks from Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump. As such, this is yet another factor that contributes to Oda taking more time off from the manga. In either case, One Piece Chapter 1191 will be followed by a two-week break, and the manga will officially return in September with the next chapter.
One Piece Schedule After Return With Chapter 1192
As things stand, One Piece is ending its August run with the release of chapter 1191, making this month underwhelming as far as chapter releases go. However, September should be significantly better. One Piece is expected to go on a three-chapter run in September immediately upon its return, with only one break in sight. If Eiichiro Oda is back at his best, then the month of September should begin with One Piece Chapter 1192 on September 6, 2026. Then, it is likely to be followed by Chapter 1193 one week later on September 13, 2026, and finally, we’ll likely see the release of One Piece Chapter 1194 on September 20, 2026. After the release of these three major chapters, it is likely that Oda will head on a personal break, which means there will be no chapter on September 27, 2026, marking the end of the month for One Piece.
These chapters are going to be significant in terms of deciding the fate of Elbaf, as Nerona Imu continues his battle against the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies. One Piece will then head into October, which could very well be decisive for the Elbaf War and wrap things up properly. In either case, we are excited for the future of One Piece, but fans should also keep in mind that Oda is not as young as he once was and that he needs more breaks than ever before. Fans should be patient with One Piece's weekly manga releases and understand that, in the long run, these breaks help the story more than they harm it.
As for what the story will deliver when it returns, we expect focus on the Underworld on Elbaf in One Piece Chapter 1192, where Nerona Imu is currently fighting against Luffy and his allies. The fight between the trio of Luffy, Loki, and Hajrudin will continue against Imu, and it'll surely be one to behold. At the same time, the battle of the Wings against the Holy Knights will also be covered, and we absolutely cannot wait to see how it all unfolds.
One Piece Chapter 1192 by Eiichiro Oda will be available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media on September 6, 2026, at 11 AM EST.
