One Piece is an absolutely brilliant series that almost everyone is aware of in today's world. Its protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, has become one of the most iconic anime characters all over the world. While One Piece was always incredibly popular, the series has gone on to reach unprecedented heights of popularity all over the world, especially with anime becoming more mainstream, and with new global projects, such as the One Piece live-action, among other things.

On top of that, the original source for the series, the One Piece manga, is going incredibly strong, with almost 3 decades of consistent serialization. With all the massive success that the series has been enjoying, the One Piece series has just broken a new record that no other manga will ever come close to. It has been officially confirmed that One Piece has hit over 600 million copies in circulation all over the world, and in doing so, it crushes any other anime and manga series worldwide.

One Piece Officially Has Over 600 Million Copies In Circulation Worldwide

One Piece Over 600 Million Copies Circulation new record

It is not easy to keep track of how much a series has sold, especially when it comes to a series as big as One Piece, with over a hundred volumes. At the moment, One Piece's sales are estimated to be over the number of copies that the series has in circulation, and with each passing year, this figure is updated. The latest number from a few years ago estimated that One Piece sales should be around 560 to 580 million. As expected, this number has drastically increased, with new One Piece volumes releasing and backlog sales growing with the anime release. Other projects, such as the One Piece live-action also helped increase this number.

Now, the most recent estimate confirms that the One Piece manga has officially broken the 600 million copies in circulation mark. This is definitely massive, and sets a new record in manga. One Piece remains, by far, the best-selling manga series of all time. In comparison, the second best-selling manga series is Doraemon, with only about half the sales, at 350 million.

With Over 600 Million Sales One Piece Surpasses Superman As The Best Selling Comic Book of All Time

600 Million Sales One Piece Surpasses Superman Best Selling Comic Book of All Time

Over 600 million copies in circulation is a massive number for One Piece to achieve, and for more than one reason. While in the manga industry, there is no series that is even remotely close to One Piece in sales, that isn't exactly the case for comic books, in general. In the past, One Piece has already surpassed some American comic book series, such as Spider-Man and Batman, but until recently, it had yet to surpass the number one comic book of all time, which is Superman. Superman is estimated to have around 600 million sales with around 18,000+ issues combined. Meanwhile, with just 114 volumes, One Piece has now dethroned it as it has officially got over 600 million copies in circulation. Having now beaten Superman, One Piece is now closing in on the throne of best-selling fictional series of all time.

Luffy has received many amazing power-ups in One Piece over the years, but Gear 5 isn't the strongest of them all.

  • This is even more impressive when fans consider that One Piece is a series by a single creator. In comparison, Superman is almost a century old now, and has thousands of comic books by hundreds of authors and creators, and it's backed by major blockbuster movies from Hollywood. Superman should have the advantage over One Piece but it's clear that Oda is still dominating.

One Piece Sales Will Continue To Grow Over The Next Decade

Surpassing 600 million copies is a very impressive feat for the One Piece manga, but it is nowhere close to being done. Fans should remember that the One Piece manga is nowhere near its end, despite it having entered its final saga. There are still at least 5-7 years of One Piece content, if not more. What's more, in just 4 years, One Piece sales went from 500 million to 600 million, which is a 20% increase in sales. The series will surely surpass 700 or 800 million in copies sold by the time it ends. That is, of course, also not accounting for backlog sales that will happen after the manga ends through the Toei anime, as well as the Wit Remake that is in production.
