Once you unlock City Tycoon in Neverness to Everness, you'll gain access to a bunch of hobbies that make the city feel a lot more alive, from fishing to delivery jobs and more, but perhaps none are as exhilarating as racing.

Racing is one of the most fun hobbies in NTE. It’s a great way to earn some Fons and level up your City Tycoon. So, how do you unlock Race Challenges and get started with racing in NTE? Let’s find out with our guide below!

To unlock racing, you first need to reach City Tycoon level 2. This will come naturally as you earn Fons and play the game normally. The only real requirement besides that is having a car. Motorbikes will not work for races.

You can get a car for free during the Legendary Driver quest, but if you miss that or want another option, you can buy a car from any dealership in the city using Fons.

How to Race in NTE (Neverness to Everness)

After you get a car, the next thing you will want to do is get it repaired. You will find repair shops around the city on the map, marked with a car and wrench icon. Go to any of them and get your vehicle repaired.

You only need to repair your car if you’ve actually been using it. If it’s still untouched, you can skip this part.

Once you have a repaired car, go back into City Tycoon, open Hethereau Hobbies, and select Challenge Races. From there, you will see three different race modes:

  • Challenge (Race against NPCs)
  • Online (Race against real players)
  • Friends (Race against your friends online)

Players will need Hunter level 12 for Online races and Hunter level 17 if you want to race with friends.

Race Difficulty Levels in NTE

Next, you can choose between six difficulty modes of the race challenge:

  • Sunday (8 PM–8 AM)
  • Coastal Drift (6 PM–6 AM)
  • Full Throttle (12 PM–12 AM)
  • Meridian (10 PM–10 AM)
  • Tempestas (4 PM–4 AM)
  • Uncrowned King (7 PM–7 AM)

Sunday and Coastal Drift are the easiest ones, so you start with them. They are quite forgiving and good for getting the hang of racing. But as you unlock more modes, things get a lot more intense. Some tracks are tight with sharp turns that test your control, while others are more about speed on straight roads.

After that, you can change the time and weather for your race. It sounds fun to race in rain or snow, but they make driving harder since your car will not handle as smoothly. So if you are still using a basic vehicle, we recommend choosing the sunny weather.

When everything is set, you’ll need to follow the flag icon on your map. It will take you straight to the racing team captain. Talk to them there, and you are officially in the race.

Racing Objectives and Rewards in NTE (Neverness to Everness)

race goals and rewards nte

Race Challenges come with a few simple objectives (along with finishing in 1st place). The rewards you can get depend on your performance, as you can earn Flags and Fons:

  • Win the race.
  • Cross the finish line with a 50+ meter lead over 2nd place.
  • Cross the finish line with a 100+ meter lead over 2nd place.

Each objective gives you one Flag, so in a single race, you can earn up to three. Every three flags give you 20 Annulith and 5,000 Fons, and this continues until you reach 18 flags in one difficulty mode. You can claim everything from the Star Reward section.

If you’re not finishing first, you will miss out on rewards for that run. So if a race starts off badly, it’s usually better to just restart and try again rather than wasting the attempt.

Best Tips for Racing in NTE (Neverness to Everness)

If you are struggling with race challenges, it usually comes down to a few simple things. Here are some useful tips that can help you:

Get a Fast Car

Your car matters more than anything in races. When you visit a dealership, you will see many cars there. Early on, you will likely be using the C2000, which is fine for easier races like Sunday and Coastal Drift. Once you move into harder races, that car starts to feel slow. At that point, upgrading becomes almost necessary if you want consistent wins.

What’s the Best Car for NTE Races?

From what I’ve seen, the Pendragon is easily one of the strongest race cars. I checked a few dealerships, and it stood out in terms of speed. It has a max speed of 202. The only problem is the price. It’s extremely expensive at 12,000,000 Fons. You can buy it from Regalia Car Dealership.

If that is out of reach, the Pursuit V8 is a much more realistic option. It still performs really well with a top speed of 180, and it’s even more durable than the Pendragon. It’s also available at the Regalia dealership and costs 4,000,000 Fons. We have a separate guide on how to get Fons fast, which you can check out to find all safe locations for Fons in NTE.

Car Repairs and Modification

Before every race, I always make sure the car is in good shape. The game will usually prompt you to repair it before a race anyway, and since it barely costs anything, it is an easy yes. It improves the performance of your car, so there’s no reason to skip it.

Once you start racing more, modifications also become worth paying attention to. You can head over to any parts shop in the city and talk to the NPC there to open the upgrade menu.

From there, you will need to go to the ‘Modifications’ tab, and you’ll see different parts you can modify. Tires are one of the most noticeable changes. I didn’t think much of them at first. But in bad weather, the default tires started letting me down. I eventually swapped them out, and the difference was immediate.

Pay Close Attention to the Track Map

There is a small map at the top left while you race. It’s easy to forget about it when you are focused on driving. But it helps a lot with upcoming turns, especially the sharp ones. Even the easier modes like Sunday and Coastal Drift have a few turns that can catch you off guard.

Slow Down Before Turns

This is one of those things you learn the hard way. Going full speed into a turn usually ends badly, so I started slowing down a bit to keep the car stable.

Try to avoid hitting other cars, because it can disturb your momentum and reduce your car’s performance. I had a few races where repeated collisions badly affected my speed.
