The Naruto anime began its run in 2003 and has since then been one of the most successful anime series. In fact, in terms of cultural impact, Naruto is easily one of the greatest series of all time that has contributed significantly to making the anime medium as big as it is today.
Unfortunately, on March 23, 2017, the Naruto series officially concluded when its last episode was released. Since then, the series has come to a standstill, with no new content having been released. While the Naruto franchise certainly did enjoy a continuation with the Boruto series, both in the anime and the manga, fans still miss the original cast of characters and the setting that made this franchise as popular as it is. Thankfully, it appears that the Naruto anime is now set to return after 10 long years. According to the latest reports, Naruto's panel at New York Comic-Con, which is set to be held on October 10, 2026, is going to bring massive reveals along with its biggest project in the last decade.
Naruto Anime Was Confirmed To Make A Comeback With 4 New Episodes
When it comes to Naruto's anime comeback, most fans are aware of the fact that four new episodes that expand the story were promised in 2023 by Studio Pierrot as well as Shueisha. These four episodes were set at some point between the events of the Naruto and the Naruto Shippuden series. Originally, they were expected to air by 2024, but they have since been pushed back indefinitely. Three years have passed since their initial announcement, and we've had no update on when these episodes are going to be released. However, early in 2026, it was confirmed and officially reported by major Japanese sources that these Naruto episodes had completed production and were set for broadcast.
While an official announcement hasn't been made, all our attention turns towards the upcoming Naruto project that is being teased for New York Comic Con on October 10, 2026. This is a significant date for the Naruto franchise. Not only is it Naruto Uzumaki's official birthday, but at the same time, it is set to mark the revival of this franchise by announcing a major project that both Studio Pierrot and Shueisha have been teasing heavily. This new project is most likely a Naruto anime return. When taking into account that reports of the Naruto episodes having wrapped up production have been floating around for the entire year, it is highly likely that the anime return will be announced on this day. Fans would absolutely love for these four episodes to finally be released and to get one more look at their beloved favorite characters later this year.
New Reports Indicate Naruto's Return At NY Comic Con 2026
While Naruto is most likely set to return with four new episodes, which could potentially be announced at NY Comic Con on October 10th, 2026, we are also eagerly waiting for a proper return for the Naruto franchise. Four episodes are not nearly enough to satiate the fans after almost 10 years of waiting. That is why we hope that the upcoming Naruto project is turned from four episodes into a full-fledged series. This would practically revive the entire franchise and give even more importance to the main characters whom we have all come to love over the years.
“I'm glad to see the world of Naruto grow larger once again. I truly hope these cards find their way to both your hands and your hearts.” – Kishimoto on the latest TCG project reveal
Furthermore, Naruto should also be getting a new project in the form of an anime remake. As things stand, One Piece recently announced its anime remake despite having an already running anime under Toei, which fans deeply appreciate. Similarly, the Naruto franchise also deserves a remake of its own, especially due to some bad pacing and the ridiculous amount of filler that the original anime series carries. If a Naruto remake were announced, new life would be breathed into the franchise, and we would absolutely love it. Finally, there is the Boruto anime to consider as well.
While not nearly as popular as Naruto, Boruto is still enjoyed by people all over the world, and it has been on hiatus for quite a long time. This sequel series is also making its return, especially as the voice actors have already confirmed working on its Part 2 in 2025.
Why 2027 Will Be The Year Of Naruto Revival
With multiple new projects lined up, the Naruto franchise is most certainly going to be revived heading into 2027. Be it with the four new episodes, a full-fledged new series, an anime remake, or a Boruto continuation, the Naruto franchise is going to be expanded upon significantly in the future. At the same time, it must also be remembered that Naruto is getting a live-action movie, which is currently in the early phases of production. This movie is also likely to premiere at some point in late 2027 or perhaps 2028. In either case, this is an incredibly exciting time to be a Naruto fan, and while this franchise has been on pause for the last decade or so, it is now being brought back fully to give the fans what they truly want.
“Right now, miracles are happening to me, one after another. My work, Naruto, is truly, truly becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even greater miracle is that the film will be directed by the one and only Destin Daniel Cretton. I still cannot believe it! If so many miracles have already come together, then let us hope for even more. I am eagerly looking forward to the miraculous encounters that will bring us extraordinary and passionate actors! I cannot wait to meet my characters in the film!” — Kishimoto Announces New Naruto Project
Anime is way more mainstream than ever before right now, and this is the time that the Naruto franchise needs to capitalize on and ride the wave. With direct involvement from Masashi Kishimoto, the upcoming projects of the Naruto franchise could truly be turned into something remarkable that we would all remember for years to come. We absolutely cannot wait for October 10 to unveil new projects and revive the anime fully.
For now, all we can do is patiently wait for the Boruto manga to continue. The manga series went on a hiatus on July 20, 2026, but it is set to make a comeback on September 17, 2026, with a brand new chapter, which continues the ongoing post-Mamushi arc even further. All things considered, the Boruto franchise is set to grow bigger than ever before, and we absolutely cannot wait to see what lies ahead of us on this beautiful journey.
All the latest chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
