As great as licensed-based games can be, there is a caveat to them. Because licensing deals vary, publishers can have them pulled when the agreements dry up. Games get delisted because of this all the time, and it just happened on Steam with several Disney games.

10 Best Games That Are Officially No Longer Available to Buy

Unless you straight-up buy consoles, these games are hard to get nowadays and have become rarities.

Star Wars: Rebellion, Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier, and Disney Universe are just a few examples of the games that left the service. Anytime this happens, it’s a cold reminder of the fickle nature of license-based games. So, to prevent the best games from disappearing before players can check them out, it’s advised to keep the following titles in mind.

To be clear, Disney has not announced that these games will disappear, but there are reasons why the following could at some point.

DuckTales: Remastered is a 2013 remake of the original game that launched most prominently on the NES in 1989. The remaster was completely reworked, using 3D backgrounds with hand-drawn sprites for characters and enemies. It also added voice acting from the cast of the cartoon, making it a full nostalgic treat. The game itself is a platformer wherein players can control Scrooge McDuck, who can jump and whack enemies with his cane across several diverse levels. Select a stage, collect treasure, and relive the glory days of the 80s in DuckTales: Remastered; conversely, if you are a big DuckTales fan, this game is about as good as things get.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is the latest entry in the series, as of 2017, which was met with fan backlash at the time. The fighting itself was solid, and while strange, the story did have its moments. What fans had a problem with was the lack of X-Men, which had always been prominently featured in the Marvel vs. Capcom games, as Disney was a bit stricter on who could enter the arena. It’s definitely the weakest entry in the franchise, but there are legitimately some cool characters that made their debut in it, like Sigma and Gamora.

Star Wars: Republic Commando was released in 2005 for the original Xbox, along with PC platforms. It took place during the Clone Wars, so between Star Wars: Episode 2 - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. Players controlled a squad of Clone Troopers through linear levels, which they could assign commands to as they battled their way through hordes of droids. It may not have been Halo: Combat Evolved, but for an Xbox shooter, it was better than most licensed Star Wars games at the time, and it’s still fun on other systems too, and hopefully it will remain available for a long time to come.

As part of the recent purge, Disney delisted Disney Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. If that game could go, then LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game could be next. This 2011 game went through the films released up to this point in typical LEGO fashion.

The adaptation was loose, but faithful, and characters did not speak, going through antics that Buster Keaton would approve of. There was swashbuckling, puzzle-solving, and platforming, and to this day, it’s probably the best game based on Pirates of the Caribbean, whether playing alone or with a friend.

Split/Second is one of the coolest racing games of the PS3 and Xbox 360 generation, which also graced PC platforms. It was released in 2010, and on racetracks, players could build up a meter to blow up parts of the environment to sabotage other players. Also, on each lap, some levels were transformed so that there were slight alterations on the track. It may not look as stunning as a modern Forza Horizon game, but Split/Second still controls well, and the explosive gimmick has not diminished after over a decade.

Disney Infinity 3.0 was the last game released in the series in 2015, which Disney effectively shut down in 2016, removing digital versions from some storefronts, only to have it return later. Thankfully, players on Steam can enjoy the game for now, which houses Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel characters in various playsets and hub worlds to hang around in. The playsets differ in tone and activities, but overall, this is a solid action platformer with pretty well-rendered skill trees for every single character. It was an idea gone too soon, but at least the platform still lives on.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron was one of the franchise's best games on the N64, and I imagine that many Nintendo fans didn’t know there was a PC version that was released around the same time. The game is a linear-based series of missions where players can pilot their starfighter to fight in big battles from the original trilogy. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron may lack features from the sequels and a riveting story like other Star Wars games, but the arcade action of the campaign is something fun worth going back to. If nothing else, this is a historical artifact that captured the Star Wars magic in the lead-up to the franchise's big cinematic return.

LEGO Marvel's Avengers adapts some storylines from the MCU. Instead of the silent gags of LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game, the characters in this adaptation do talk, but they sample the movies instead of having original dialogue for the most part. It can be a bit jarring, but the action is still as fun as ever, even more so since these are superheroes. Whether players are smashing things as The Hulk or flying around as Iron Man, there’s a Marvel character for everyone in LEGO Marvel's Avengers, and there is a lot to collect.

Tron 2.0 received multiple versions, but the PC build received the most praise. It was a first-person shooter developed by Monolith Productions, which is nowadays primarily known for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, but shooter fans may have also played the F.E.A.R. series. This original concept had a good pedigree, and it translated into a great sequel to the original movie, before there was a sequel with Tron Legacy later on. It adapted characters, areas, and storylines into a first-person shooter flawlessly, and as one of the more forgotten games on this list, they usually tend to fall off platforms faster than others.
