Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a "massive" Ascendance expansion in 2027, as revealed by Capcom during Summer Game Fest 2026 through a brief trailer. Monster Hunter Wilds is following the Monster Hunter tradition with a huge DLC with a new area and a ton of content.

Upon launch in early 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds sold eight million copies in three days, becoming the fastest-selling title in the saga. However, the game soon faced mixed reviews as players expressed their frustration over ongoing performance issues, primarily on PC. Since then, Capcom has issued a series of updates aiming to fix the problems, while also releasing new content and collaborations with other titles such as Final Fantasy. Now, Monster Hunter Wilds is getting ready to welcome its first major expansion.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance DLC Confirmed for 2027

As seen in the trailer, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance introduces a new locale named The Skybound Eyrie, a group of floating islands. Players will be able to ride their Seikret into the sky to explore and encounter new monsters. The video also showcases the long-awaited debut of Elder Dragons in the game. Some of the most powerful Elder Dragons from the Monster Hunter series can be seen making a comeback, such as Lao-Shan Lung and Kushala Daora. Additionally, the expansion adds Master Rank quests and new Hunter moves and abilities. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will launch sometime in 2027 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. On the other hand, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Wilds is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, though no confirmed release date is in sight.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance continues the story set up by the base game with familiar faces like Alma and Olivia. To unlock both the new chapter and Master Rank quests, players must first complete the 7-Star assignment "Awaking From a Dream." The developers also revealed new actions for different Monster Hunter Wilds weapons with the addition of the Booster Bracer, a device that temporarily enhances a Hunter's attacks and combos. One new green flying monster is particularly showcased in the trailer as well. It seems the creature can call its companions to fight in groups with aerial attacks.

The last big update that Monster Hunter Wilds received was in February 2026, which brought a handful of limited events and an anniversary celebration, along with more performance fixes across platforms. The patch also included an extra 10-Star fight against Arkveld and brought back other Arch-tempered battles. With the release of Master Rank quests in Ascendance, it seems even more challenging fights are on the way for players.

Historically, the Monster Hunter series has launched large expansions that delve deeper into and sometimes even redefine the base game, such as Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak or Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Capcom has described Ascendance as "massive," suggesting a similar pattern to its predecessors. Despite its rocky release, Monster Hunter Wilds became one of the best Monster Hunter titles in the series, so a huge DLC could be a step in the right direction to redemption. Little is known about the expansion so far, but the developer will likely reveal more trailers in the coming months. It remains to be seen whether Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will meet players' expectations.
