Namielle is one of the first Calamitous Elder Dragons players will encounter in Monster Hunter Stories 3, and despite its appearance early in the game, the majority of players won't be able to beat it until they get stronger. This monster is extremely powerful, capable of downing the entire party in a single shot. Combine this with its chunky health pool, and you have a recipe for disaster. Thankfully, Namielle in MH Stories 3 isn't impossible to beat, but it'll take a while before you reach the point where you can stand toe to toe against it.

MH Stories 3 Namielle Weaknesses

  • Elemental Weaknesses: Fire
  • Ailment Weaknesses: Poison, Darkness, Blast
  • Preferred Attack Types: Technical (Water Mantle), Speed (Abyss Charge), Power (Depleted/Exposed)

Namielle is the strongest Mirror Lake monster in MH Stories 3. Still, you can craft Namielle gear by challenging it, losing to it, then picking up any parts it drops behind.

Fire is the element that Namielle is weakest against, so if you're trying to maximize your damage output, Fire weapons and Monsties are your best bet. However, there's a case to be made with Non-Elemental damage: as long as your attacks have high Wyvernfell damage, they will be worth using against this monster, as depleting its Wyversoul gauge is much easier than depleting its health bar.

Depleting a monster's Wyvernsoul gauge causes it to stagger, canceling any attack it's queued up.

How to Spawn Namielle

To make Namielle appear in MH Stories 3, you need to defeat monsters during the night. When you're done hunting, a cutscene will play, and lightning will appear over the lake. You'll find the Namielle hovering over the mass of whirling lightning. Ride a Leviathan to reach the area below the Namielle, then switch to a Flying Monstie (or anything else that can glide) to reach your target.

Keep in mind that once you've unlocked the other regions, slaying monsters at night from anywhere can trigger a Namielle spawn event in Azuria. Likewise, slaying monsters at night can cause other Elder Dragons to appear in other regions. If this happens, reset by waiting until daytime, then go back to nighttime, then repeat the process. You may need to slay more monsters than before after doing this.

If all you want to do is practice fighting the Namielle in Azuria, then save the game before entering combat. If you get defeated, reload the save file, then try again.

  • Purple Gypceros
  • Ratha/Any Rathalos or Rathian
  • Tobi-Kadachi

Purple Gypceros have the Tail Stun attack, which deals heavy Wyvernfell damage. They can also inflict Darkness, though this isn't totally reliable against Namielle. Meanwhile, any Rathalos or Rathian are good for dealing Fire damage, inflicting Poison, and countering Technical attacks with Power attacks. Tobi-Kadachis are good for the same reason as Rathalos/Rathians, except they're for countering with Speed attacks.

Any monster with the Heat Shimmer ability can potentially help you dodge incoming attacks. Water Tobi-Kadachis are also better than regular ones thanks to their higher Wyvernfell damage. Lastly, try to get Tenacity on your Monstie so they can survive a fatal attack once per fight. If none of the monsters above are working for you, bring in a Malzeno or a Magnamalo.

Ogden is terrific for any fight that requires you to deal high Wyvernfell damage. He'll give the party buffs with his Hunting Horn too, greatly increasing everyone's effectiveness against the Namielle.

Eleanor is a good alternative if you want to do all the support stuff yourself. She'll do decent damage against the Namielle with her Anjanath and Fire-based attacks.

Armor and Equipment

You'll want an armor set that has good base defense as well as decent resistance against both Thunder and Water. The higher the values, the better, as Namielle will use both Water and Thunder attacks against you regardless of what state it's in. If you can get one with the Tenacity skill (like the Brachydios armor set), use that, unless you can tank Namielle's big hits with your other sets.

Don't forget to equip Decorations on your armor. These can greatly increase your survivability during the fight.

As for weapons, any Hammer with high Wyvernfell will do and the Sweet Spot skill will do. Other Weapon Decorations that give you attacks with high Wyvernfell damage will be the best option. When the monster runs out of Wyvernsoul stacks, switch to a high-damage Fire weapon (the Anjanath Bow is a good option thanks to its access to Blast Coating).

By using Wyvernfell/Stun strategies, you'll be drawing out the fight for longer compared to using weapons that deal higher direct damage. It'll take a while, but as long as you play well (and get very lucky), you'll be able to beat the Namielle eventually.

Namielle Fight Tips

  • Eat Meat Dishes to increase your starting Stamina. This goes a long way to beating Namielle completely.
  • Namielle has three HP breakpoints (70%, 50%, and 30%). If you run out of hearts but manage to bring the monster's health close to these points, your next fight against it will start close to the breakpoint you reached.
  • Avoid using Syncro Rush unless you know you can deal tons of damage. When the monster gets knocked down, it will be forced to enter the Water Depleted state, where it will only use Power Attacks.
  • Pay attention to the monster's state. In the Water Mantle state, it will primarily use Technical Attacks. In Abyss Charge state, it will use Speed attacks. In Water Depleted state, it will mainly use Power Attacks. During all of these states, Namielle has a chance to use a gold single-target attack, unless it is forced into Water Depleted state after being toppled (it will only use Power Attacks in this case).
  • Namielle changes states after using Nami Blast or Nami Torrent. You can also tell what state it is in by the color of its mantle.
  • Blast and Poison are great damage dealers. While you're hammering away at Namielle's Wyversoul gauge, either of these ailments will help you chip away at its health faster.
  • Stock up on Nulberries, Vital Essences, and Surrogate Gems. These will keep you in the fight.
