We don’t exactly know what Insomniac has planned for the future of the Marvel’s Spider-Man IP, but we do know that the studio will develop its superhero world with at least one more major release. Indeed, all eyes are on Marvel’s Wolverine, which is set to launch later in 2026, but some Spider-Man fans might be more interested in another long-rumored project: Venom.
Venom played a significant role in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, even being playable for a brief section. The symbiote was ostensibly destroyed at the end of the game, but it’s not too great a stretch to assume that he might return in a future Marvel’s Spider-Man game–such is the way of comic book stories. But is Venom actually returning for his own standalone game? And if so, what will such an enigmatic anti-hero adventure look like?
Insomniac Games Could Be on the Verge of a Ridiculous Marvel Hot Streak
A new rumor making the rounds online suggests Insomniac Games is about to on a 3-year streak of releasing highly-anticipated Marvel video games.
Does ‘Marvel’s Venom’ Even Exist?
This most fundamental question about the rumored Venom game doesn’t have a simple answer, unfortunately. In the infamous Insomniac leak of 2023, some high-level details were revealed about a game called Venom: Lethal Protector, which was planned to “[continue] Spider-Man 2 and [lead] into Spider-Man 3.” This game would, per the leaks, feature “playable, switchable Venom and Spider-Heroes” and a single-player campaign clocking in at around 8-10 hours. The leak also suggested that this would be another open-world game from Insomniac, as Lethal Protector’s optional content was planned to be composed of “bases, crimes, and collectibles.”

Venom: Lethal Protector would have likely adapted the limited-run comic series of the same name, featuring Eddie Brock as the titular anti-hero.
I tend to refer to Venom: Lethal Protector in the past tense because it seems likely that this particular iteration of the Venom game will be lost to time. This is what Nadji Jeter, the actor for Insomniac’s Miles Morales, intimated on an episode of the Love it Film web show in April 2026. According to Jeter, there was a proper, standalone Venom video game in development prior to the tragic passing of Tony Todd, the iconic Candyman actor who voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Jeter says that this game was scrapped after Todd’s death.
However, this statement is refuted by Jason Schreier, Bloomberg’s highly accomplished industry insider. In a thread about Jeter’s comments on ResetEra, Schreier simply stated, “This isn’t true.” It’s not exactly clear what he means—whether he’s refuting the claim about the game’s existence, it being canceled, or it being canceled specifically because of Todd’s death—but it could corroborate a comment from a developer at indie outfit Allfather Productions in the same ResetEra thread, claiming that Jeter’s comments contradict “what was being discussed at GDC” in 2026.
The Venom Game Is Potentially Being Reworked
Even if Insomniac is still working on a Venom game, it’ll likely be far removed from the Lethal Protector pitch outlined in the 2023 leaks. We already know of a few projects—namely, three planned DLCs for Spider-Man 2—that were included in the leaks and subsequently canceled. That is to say, it’s evident that just because Insomniac announced or pitched a project internally, that doesn’t mean that it’s destined to come to fruition.

In fact, the cancellation of the Spider-Man 2 DLCs may offer insight into Insomniac’s Venom plans. For instance, it was reported that at least one of these expansions would focus on Carnage as the primary villain; there’s reason to believe that this element of the scrapped DLC will be repurposed into the standalone Venom game, which is said to not only still be in development but may actually be more ambitious than initial leaks would have us believe.
Marvel’s Venom Will Reportedly Include Eddie Brock, Carnage, and Anti-Venom
In September 2025, gaming outlet Mp1st reported that it had received an insider update from Insomniac: Wolverine was still Insomniac’s priority, and the Venom project was still in development. The outlet says it was able to verify these claims, asserting their credibility.
Mp1st also reported information from another insider source, although the outlet admits it was unable to verify these particular claims, and that they should be taken with a grain of salt. At any rate, this second source shared several alleged details of the Venom project, including that it would feature the version of Cletus Kasady (Carnage) introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. They also said that Venom would feature a new rendition of Anti-Venom, this time adapted by Eddie Brock rather than Peter Parker.
There are less likely rumors about the Venom game floating around too, such as the inclusion of Agent Venom and Knull, and that Sony is considering releasing the game as a PS6 launch title, but these are largely unsubstantiated. We’ll have to wait and see whether the aforementioned claims about Venom are accurate, but here’s my two cents: if Sony is able to ship a Venom video game, then it probably will. The character is simply too popular to ignore, and a lot of gamers would happily pay full price to play a game with him as the star. It’s not often you get that kind of certainty in entertainment, so it’ll likely be capitalized on in some way. The only question is what this standalone Venom project might look like.
