In Marathon, your Runner can equip a variety of augments and attachments to both their weapons and their shells. Any chance to boost your stats makes a difference in the heat of battle, so you'll want to take advantage of any and all upgrades you can install on your Runner. One early method of giving your Runner an edge in combat is by using Implants, which provide various stat-boosting properties and perks that modify your capabilities. This Marathon guide will explain how Implants work and the best locations to find them.
Marathon's Server Slam Is Off to an Incredible Start
Marathon, the upcoming extraction shooter from Destiny developer Bungie, kicks off its official Server Slam, and it's off to an incredible start.
Marathon: Implants Explained
All Core Stats
A Runner's shell contains three slots for Implants: a head slot, a torso slot, and a leg slot. As such, you'll find various Implants in Marathon that augment your Runner's capabilities associated with the slot it's inserted into. Unlike Cores, which help upgrade a Runner's unique abilities, Implants provide increased stat boosts as well as unique perks that can modify your play style while in a raid. A total of 13 core stats can be modified using Implants:
|
Stat |
Description |
|---|---|
|
Heat Capacity |
Increases the number of movement actions (sprinting, sliding) you can perform before overheating. |
|
Agility |
Increases your movement speed and jump height. |
|
Loot Speed |
Increases how quickly items are revealed when looting containers. |
|
Melee Damage |
Increases the damage of your melee and knife attacks. |
|
Prime Recovery |
Reduces the cooldown of your prime ability. |
|
Tactical Recovery |
Reduces the cooldown of your tactical and trait abilities. |
|
Self-Repair Speed |
Increases how quickly your consumables restore missing health or shields. |
|
Finisher Siphon |

|

|
Hardware |
Reduces the duration of status effects that debilitate your Runner's physical chassis. |
|
Firewall |
Reduces the duration of status effects that degrade your Runner's electronic systems. |
|
Fall Resistance |
Reduces the amount of damage you take after falling. |
|
Ping Duration |
Increases how long your pings persist on hostile targets. |
Stat increases are not limited to their respective Implant slots. For example, the 'Fall Resistance' stat can be found on both Leg and Head Implants.
In addition to stat increases, each Implant also provides Runner's with unique perks. Head Implants, for example, may contain the Overclocked Cooling perk, which increases the Heat Capacity stat while under the benefits of a Mechanic's Kit or OS Debug. The Sympathetic Reflex perk on Torso Implants grants increased ADS speed and weapon handling to you and nearby crew members after defeating hostiles.
You may equip up to three (one of each type) of Implant on your shell. Implants are available in various rarities, providing further stat increases based on the version number you equip.
How to Get Implants in Marathon
Implants can be obtained through various sources in Marathon. The most common methods of finding Implants are:
- Contract Rewards: Completing contracts with certain Factions can sometimes yield Implants.
- Armory: The various Factions will often have Implants available for sale through the Armory.
- During a Run: Implants can often be found within Bioprinter caches and on dead Runners.
Try searching around points of interest in each zone, like the North and South Relays on Perimeter, for Bioprinter caches and other containers.
Implants can be swapped in and out at any time, even during a run. Make sure to utilize your Implant slots whenever you can to increase your odds of a successful exfil. If you're playing Marathon during the Server Slam test period, Implants will help you quickly obtain all rewards for reaching level 30.
