Games of Thrones is a worldwide phenomenon, from its original series of books to its popular HBO adaptation. The author behind this world, George R.R. Martin clearly spent a lot of time building this universe and populating it with fantastic stories, sweeping epics, and the occasional dragon. Seriously, the world of Game of Thrones is massive.
As such, we've created an interactive map that catalogs the major events and locations from Game of Thrones and its spin-offs, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Our map currently focuses on the story as told in the various television series, not the events in the books. This includes those huge battles we're all so fond of and the many, many, many character deaths sown across these storylines. Have fun and explore the Known World of Westeros and Essos at your leisure!
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently airing on HBO Max, so we'll be updating this map periodically with any notable new events, locations, or character deaths as each episode releases.
Where We're At in the GoT Universe
Game of Thrones
The series ended in eight seasons. If you want to feel old, remember that the series finale premiered all the way back in 2019. It tells of the main events of Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series, which include the following novels: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons.
We're all currently holding our breaths for The Winds of Winter.
House of the Dragon
This prequel series to Game of Thrones focuses on the epic battle that splits House Targaryen around two hundred years before the story of Game of Thrones takes place. There are currently two seasons available to watch, with the third expected to release in the summer of 2026.
The events of this show focus on the infamous "Dance of Dragons," the Targaryen war amongst themselves that eventually weakened their hold on Westeros. You can read about this event and other Targaryen-related occurrences in Martin's Fire & Blood novel.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The newest of the Game of Thrones HBO series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms lands in between the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. It's about one hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.
The story is slightly more light-hearted than most fare you get from this universe, and it tells of the adventures and misadventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.
