Given LEGO’s long history of official products, it should come as no surprise that official Back to the Future sets exist. In fact, several LEGO DeLorean models have been released over the years, with a new version of the time machine released at the start of 2026. While these products give fans an opportunity to build the classic version of the vehicle, others have gone for something more original.
Mad Max-Themed LEGO DeLorean
One of the more creative reimaginings of the DeLorean was recently shared on Reddit by a user known as V0XZAC0. Specifically, they built a beefier version of the vehicle that looked at home in the Mad Max universe. The design included wasteland versions of Doc and Marty and gave the DeLorean massive wheels that lifted the chassis high off the ground. Various chains and spikes were added to the model to give it a war machine look.
Besides sharing pictures of the MOC (My Own Creation) on Reddit, V0XZAC0 provided a brief story for the set. Notably, Doc and Marty had “overshot their destination” when trying to use the time machine, sending them into “a scorched future where civilization had collapsed into chaos and chrome-plated war machines ruled the desert.” The LEGO set represented a version of the DeLorean that was refitted to survive the harshness of the wasteland.
This new version of the DeLorean has been incredibly popular with LEGO builders on the official subreddit. So far, the post has gained over 8.2K upvotes, with numerous users leaving positive feedback on the design. In the comments, fans praised the mashup of ideas and enjoyed the use of the large tires in the build. In fact, many liked the design so much that they wanted to build it for themselves. Fortunately, V0XZAC0 said that they planned to put together instructions for the build in the near future.

Besides V0XZAC0, many other builders have recently showcased their passion for LEGO on places like Reddit. Keeping with the Back to the Future theme, another fan recently undertook the challenge of creating the DeLorean out of LEGO pieces from a Millennium Falcon set, achieving an impressive result.
While original builds continue to be shared with the community, it will be interesting to see what official LEGO sets are announced in 2026. Many products have already been released in the first few months of the year, with more coming down the pipeline. Unfortunately, official Mad Max sets have not been announced, but this latest build from V0XZAC0 shows that the franchise could hold a lot of potential if LEGO were ever to consider going down that road.
