Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular manga and anime series in the whole world. The original manga by Gege Akutami ended on September 30, 2024, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #44. However, the franchise has continued in exciting ways since. Gege Akutami, the original creator, returned with a major sequel for Jujutsu Kaisen in 2025, called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, teaming up with artist Yuji Iwasaki in the process. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place 68 years after the Sukuna Raid, and while it is a short manga, it adds a ton of exposition to the beautiful world of Jujutsu Kaisen.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17, released officially on January 4, 2026, a new exciting mystery was set up by the author as he officially explored the disappearance of Iori Okkotsu. Iori Okkotsu is the son of Yuta and Maki Zenin, and the father of Yuka and Tsurugi. He disappeared 16 years ago, but he could be returning in the future, given that he's an extremely important member of the Gojo Clan with a distaste for how weak sorcerers became following the fall of Ryomen Sukuna.

Before Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo even began, we knew that Yuta Okkotsu had, at the very least, one child. This information was revealed through the Jujutsu Kaisen one-shot that came with the Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30 release in Japan on December 26, 2025. Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu were officially revealed in this chapter. Since Yuta had grandchildren, we were intrigued by ideas concerning his own child. Over a year after this one-shot, Gege Akutami officially explored this idea in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17 and revealed the Identity of this mysterious child.

“Compared to the generation of my grandparents, he grew anguished by how little strength there was among the Jujutsu sorcerers of his own generation and the ones below it, and he eventually broke down.” — Tsurugi Okkotsu on Iori, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #17

This mystery was also expanded upon in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 1 via a lineage chart of the Okkotsu family, showing Yuta Okkotsu had one son with Maki Zenin. This son’s name was Iori Okkotsu, and he was a prominent member of the Gojo Clan, set up to be its next head after Yuta Okkotsu and the second head after Gojo Satoru. Unsurprisingly, instead of answers, big questions immediately started popping up about him. Iori mysteriously disappeared 16 years ago, after the birth of Yuka Okkotsu, his daughter. Towards the end of Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, Gege Akutami also unveiled his full character design, specifically in Modulo Chapter 17, on January 4, 2026. Iori, being the son of Yuta, looks exactly like his father, with a hint of Zenin features that come through his mother. While Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is over already, the mystery of this special Gojo clan member remains, and sooner or later, Gege Akutami will have to address it and explain what exactly happened to him and where he is right now.

Iori Okkotsu’s disappearance is one of the biggest new mysteries introduced by Gege Akutami in Jujutsu Kaisen lore. He disappeared the very same year his daughter was born, which raises many questions if this disappearance could be linked to her in some way. Either way, we get some hints about his disappearance in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 17. In this chapter, Iori Okkotsu was revealed to have big worries about the current state of sorcerers. Unlike the generation of his parents Yuta and Maki, most sorcerers from his generation were weak.

“Just before he disappeared, a maid witnessed my father lashing out at a hooded figure with a scar on his face.” — Tsurugi Okkotsu, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter #17

With these worries in mind, he was seen reaching out to Yuji Itadori. The two had a discussion before Iori’s eventual disappearance. This led many to believe that Yuji is linked to his disappearance in some way or form. In the recent release of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Volume 3 on May 1, 2026, Gege Akutami officially confirmed that Iori Okkotsu was last seen in an uninhabited part of Tokyo with Cursed Spirits. It’s very possible that Iori’s depression from the current state of the world of sorcery led him to ask Yuji Itadori to mentor him. It is also possible that Iori went to Tokyo to train himself by exorcizing powerful cursed spirits.

With the Gojo Clan lore still not fully elaborated upon and Iori Okkotsu still being alive and wandering in Tokyo, he could still potentially redeem himself for abandoning his family 16 years ago. His own daughter, Yuka Okkotsu, has now grown tremendously powerful, while Tsurugi has been strengthened tremendously thanks to Rika as well. Given his main issue with the new generation being their weakness, Iori has every reason to make a comeback as the new head of the Gojo Clan.

Iori Okkotsu’s Potential Powers And Future Role In Jujutsu Kaisen

Iori Okkotsu Potential Powers Future Role Jujutsu Kaisen

Iori Okkotsu is probably Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s most mysterious character at the moment. Very little information about him has been divulged by this supposedly missing head of the Gojo Clan. The only thing Gege confirmed in the final volume was that he married a woman named Mifuyu, had two children, Tsurugi and Yuka, and then vanished, last seen in Tokyo with cursed spirits. A lot of this Gojo head needs to be explored in the series, and even though Gege Akutami has already stated that he intended Modulo to be a short serialization, a continuation is clearly needed, even if it's just in the form of a one-shot. Fans can’t wait to learn more about this anomaly within the Gojo Clan.

Given that he's the Successor to Yuta as Gojo Clan’s head and holds a direct tie to Gojo Satoru himself, he could even have held the Limitless cursed technique. Yuta is related to Gojo Satoru through an ancestor, an old sorcerer known as Michizane Sugawara. In that sense, the Gojo blood flows through Iori’s veins, and getting the Limitless isn’t impossible. Furthermore, Yuta's brain likely had Limitless engraved onto it when he was in Gojo's body, further boosting the chances of Iori having the Limitless.

“Apparently, you're a descendant of Michizane Sugawara. It might be distant, but we're relatives.” — Gojo explaining the blood ties between him and Yuta Okkotsu.

Most importantly, we know that he was disgusted with the weakness of the modern era, and for anyone to hold such feelings, it is only natural to expect a high level of strength. Iori has the blood of two absolute monsters flowing through his veins, as well as the potential technique of a past strongest. All things considered, his return is necessary for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo to fully make sense, and we can't wait to see what Gege does with his character.
