Steel Ball Run Translator Criticizes Netflix, Says JoJo Fans Deserve Better

Steel Ball Run's official French translator for the manga actually took to X to try and convince Netflix to release the anime weekly.

The first episode of Steel Ball Run was 47 minutes long. The reason why the anime debuted with a longer episode is that it covered the entirety of the first stage. With such an exciting episode, fans are now eager to know when the second episode of Steel Ball Run is going to be released.

At the time of writing, there is no information about the release date for Steel Ball Run Episode 2. A lot of fans were hoping to receive some kind of update at the recent Anime Japan event, but they were let down yet again. A teaser for the second episode was shared, and it was stated that Steel Ball Run Episode 2 would be released in 2026.

The lack of a release date is rather concerning, and JoJo fans are rightly worried about the anime's future. Previously, Netflix ruined the rollout for Stone Ocean by releasing episodes in batches, and now it has somehow made things worse. The episodes are not released weekly nor in batches. It's safe to say that Netflix doesn't have the slightest clue what fans want.

Even the French translator of the Steel Ball Run manga has come out in support of the fans. He has urged Netflix and the respective authorities to make Steel Ball Run a weekly release. Anything other than that will ruin the essence of the anime and make Steel Ball Run's release schedule one of the worst in history.

Steel Ball Run Could End In 2027

Steel Ball Run Episode 2 Release Date Johnny

At the current pace, the Steel Ball Run anime may end in 2027 or worse in 2028. The present consensus is that Episode 2 will be released in the latter half of 2026. So, unless there is a normal release schedule after that, Steel Ball Run could drag on for at least 2 more years. Such a release schedule would absolutely kill the hype of the anime, which would be a shame, as the Steel Ball Run manga is one of the best of all time.

  • A lot of fans have resorted to hijacking the comments section of major Netflix accounts as a form of dissent.

Some fans have even started review bombing the official Netflix app on the mobile stores. It's clear that they desperately want to know when their beloved anime series will make a return. Until Netflix gives them the answers, the dissent will not stop.

Aside from the problematic release schedule, JoJo fans have also had to deal with review bombing. When the first episode came out, it made Steel Ball Run the highest-rated anime on MyAnimeList, overtaking Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. Once other fandoms caught wind of this, they began to rate the episode 1 out of 10, which brought down the overall score. Ultimately, the Steel Ball Run dropped to the second spot, and it has remained there since. While review bombing is not a good thing to do, JoJo fans shouldn't be too bothered by it. After all, ratings are not a definitive indicator of quality.

How Can Netflix Fix Steel Ball Run?

The easiest way to fix Steel Ball Run is by sharing a proper release schedule with the fans. If the production hasn't finished yet, then Netflix should delay the anime until it is complete. Nobody wants to wait for 4–5 months for a new episode. David Production has already proven that it can deliver a stunning adaptation, so they just need enough time to wrap up the production. Once the episodes are ready, Netflix should opt for a weekly release.
