Maps are one of the most important tools in any RPG. Whether you're tracking quest objectives, locating merchants, or simply exploring the world, having a map can save a lot of time and frustration. Most modern RPGs hand players a map from the very beginning, but Gothic 1 Remake takes a very different approach.
This RPG offers very little hand-holding and expects players to learn the Colony through exploration and conversations with NPCs. As a result, you will not have immediate access to a map when starting your journey. Thankfully, it is possible to obtain one fairly early on. Where to Buy Maps in Gothic 1 Remake
After the introductory scenes, the game finally gives players control and allows them to explore the Colony freely. Before heading off in a random direction, make sure to exhaust all dialogue options with Diego. He provides useful information about the world and serves as your first guide through the Colony.
Once you're ready to move on, follow the dirt road downhill from the starting area. Along the way, you'll encounter several Scavengers as well as a few NPCs who can be spoken to. The Scavengers are relatively weak enemies and can be defeated if you're looking to gather some extra resources or items to sell later. If you would rather avoid combat, simply continue following the road.
Keep moving forward until you reach a bridge on the left side of the path. The bridge is guarded by two guards, making it difficult to miss. Cross the bridge and continue along the road. After a short walk, you will arrive at the main entrance of the Old Camp.
Two guards stand outside the camp gate. As you approach them, one of the guards will stop you and ask what your business is. During the conversation, tell him that you wish to enter the Old Camp and that Diego sent you. This will convince the guard to allow you inside without any further issues.
After entering the Old Camp, immediately turn right. You will find an NPC named Graham standing near a group of other residents. Graham is the Colony's cartographer and serves as the primary source of maps early in the game. Speak with Graham and browse his inventory. He sells several maps that can make navigating the Colony significantly easier. Purchasing these maps early is highly recommended, especially if you're planning to explore beyond the Old Camp and tackle quests in different regions in this open-world RPG.
If you're short on Ore Nuggets, don't worry. There are several easy ways to earn currency during the opening hours. Loot items scattered around the world, defeat Scavengers and sell their drops, or open chests to collect valuable items that can be traded. With a little exploration, you should have more than enough Ore Nuggets to purchase Graham's maps and make future exploration much more convenient.
