Steam game libraries can get quite large, quite quickly, and trying to sift through hundreds of games to find the specific date you purchased or were gifted a specific title can be difficult.
Luckily, there is an easy way players can tell when they bought a game, how much they paid for it, and how much of a discount they got on their purchase. Here’s the breakdown.
How to See When You Bought a Game on Steam
In Steam, you can check the exact date when you purchased a game using the following method:
- Open the Steam client on your desktop.
- Click on the profile icon in the top right corner, next to the alerts and notifications.
- Select Account Details.
- Click on “View licenses and product key activations” or “View purchase history” in the Store & Purchase History section.

The “View licenses and product key activations” option will show you a comprehensive list of games attached to your account through purchases, gifts, guest passes, free-to-keep claims, or other means, as well as the exact time those games were added to your account. The date of purchase will be displayed in the left column.
View purchase history
The “View purchase history” option, on the other hand, will only show you the purchase date of games you paid for with your own money, as well as Steam Wallet codes you used to add funds to your account. Purchase history will not show you F2P games or gifted titles.
The exact dollar amount of how much you were charged for a game will be displayed in the Price column. If you bought the game on sale, both the full price and the discounted price will be shown in this section.
To find a specific game in the purchase history or licenses menu, press CTRL + F on your keyboard to open a search bar. Type in the name of the game you want to check in the search bar and hit the downward arrow key to find its entry.
How to See When You Bought a Game on Steam Deck
- Boot up the Steam Deck.
- Select the profile icon on the top right corner of the screen.
- Go to Account Details.
- Click on “View licenses and product key activations” or "View purchase history."
All purchased, complimentary, and gifted games will be shown in a list format in the View licenses and product key activations page, whereas the View purchase history page will show you a complete list of all purchased games associated with your account and how much they cost you.
If your Steam Deck is in desktop mode, use the method shown in the previous section instead of this one.
